The Seth Curry situation looks promising--but the McMasters situation is more of a longshot.

We're headed up a level with our recruiting--which is really cool 8)

so a newspaper began to report that he verballed to us, but it's a longshot? Oh I forgot who I'm talking to. Bigger name schools are on him so there is 0% chance he chooses us over them.

LUconn:

I missed the part where it was published that he committed to us? Was it reported that way? If so, then we do have reason to suspect that he may be headed our way.

Sly Fox wrote:The Chattanooga fishwrap reported that Cater had verbally committed to us which would be huge news. But they have pulled the story from their website so I wonder if the story was premature. Anyone with knowledge out there to verify whether or not we have landed this highly recruited big?

Sly is right, that they pulled the article, but here is at least the first sentence of it:

Even though the article was pulled, it still feels good to read the first sentence of it.

That's sketchy at best, LUconn.

But just so you know where I'm coming from: I believed all along that McKay will take us up a level and that he has the kind of personality, commitment, and background that will draw bigger name recruits to this program.

Also, and for what it's worth, I'm much more excited about the prospect of landing Seth Curry than I would be about McMasters.

McKay, in a way, is the perfect fit for this program and I have always maintained that he can and will effectively sell it---like no other before him.

We have to at least consider that the fact that they pulled the piece may actually mean something. But either way, we're just gonna have to wait and see how it plays out.

I'm sure that the coaching staff is very busy, trying to make something happen. Hopefully, it will. Stay tuned.

Sly & Scar, I was right: Carter's dad is Tommy McMasters, and he played basketball at Tenn. Temple. We were classmates together, and he graduated in 1985. That's got to be an advantage for us, since his dad knows the value of a Christian college education.

A few more details from the original article have emerged. Perhaps the article will be held out until November 15th, and we really are going to land this kid----and Curry too!!!

My guy in Chattanooga turned me on to this website about high school athletics in Tennessee, so here's little info on McMasters' high school team: http://tennessee.coacht.com/inside/team ... &sportid=3

Scar, if you still have Ron Bishop on speed dial, I bet he could give you the inside scoop on this kid, since his dad Tommy played for Coach Bishop at Tenn. Temple.

Carter McMasters, 6'10" senior post player for the Grace Academy Golden Eagles, has verbally committed to continue his education and basketball career at Liberty University of Lynchburg, Va.

Carter, the son of Tommy and Melinda McMasters of East Brainerd, has notified Coach Ritchie McKay of his intent to sign with the Flames on the Nov. 15 national signing date.
Mattheiss says McMasters was blessed with the opportunity to consider offers from numerous SEC, ACC, Big 10 and Southern Conference schools, including an outstanding offer from UTC.

According to Carter, he chose Liberty for the combination of "...the Christian atmosphere for spiritual growth" and the development of his game.

They already have offered scholarships and he still chose the Flames.

We always talk on here that the key to our athletic programs growing is convincing the top Christian athletes that they don't have to sacrifice their athletic dreams by coming to a Christian program. Clearly Coach McKay is selling and some strong recruits are now buying.

I am hoping this kid signs on the bottom line on the first signing day. This is exactly the type of student athlete we should be targeting and landing BECAUSE of the opportunity to have a Christian education.

Great good for McKay and the boys especailly if/when we close the deal and I am thinking positively.

and as soon as he makes his mark on his LOI, we can stop having the argument about if it's possible to get a kid that a "major" has offered to. This was the best possible way to settle it.

Great news! Now, some of you can stop with all the talk of us only having guards on the team! Hopefully he and Smith will sign come Nov. 15. If we can land Curry, that would be the cherry on top. How many scholly's do we have available for next year?

How do you think the good folks on the Sable and the Tech Sideline are going to react to losing somebody they offered to little ole Liberty. It will make it even tougher for Hokie fans when they see Del's kid playing just down 460. 8)

That argument was settled for me a long time ago. I know that we have gotten kids with Legitimate offers at other schools including Chris Caldwell, Larry Jackson and Keith Ferguson. I believe Dees had some really serious offers as well but I didn't help recruit him so I am not sure.
