I think that with this team struggling to even get above .500 the last few years I think we need to get some consistent winning going on (and I mean 20 wins and a consistent winning record at home) before we try to step up the home schedule. Nott to mention, most D1 schools aren't exactly beating down the door to play us

yes, but LC has won a combined 9 games the past two seasons and finished last in the conference (by the way, westminster made the ncaa tournament), and didnt Liberty finish 3rd in their conference and then get upset in the first round of the conference tournament? the worse you are, the easier shedule you play. Liberty, for a team that finished 3rd in the conference, shouldnt even consider playing such teams like longwood and nyac for example. and Liberty also, in my opinion, shouldnt be playing teams Kentucky and VA Tech, two schools which they have very little chance of winning.

what division is LC in again? once LC gets in division 1 then you can tell us who we can and can't play. not that it matters but that won't be happening anytime soon.

ok, so in your first post, you say were playing too easy of teams. Then you decide a worse team should have an easier schedule, so you decide now we shouldnt be playing those teams at all? But of course Lynchburg College is perfect because they played a team that made it to the division two tournament. I guess it really doesnt matter anyways, its not like your coming to any of the games.

Gotta love someone from Lynchburg College telling a division 1 school how they should play the game.

the better you are, the tougher the schedule should be, that's sports common sense right there - and if you don't know that then you don't know jack about sports. a team that finishes top 3 in their conference shouldnt be playing so many cupcakes. go talk to the teams who dont make it to the ncaa tournament and one of the biggest reasons given for why they dont is their weak non-conferencec schedule, ala syrcause this past season. it won't do a team any good to play cupcakes like longwood, especially not if you expect to finish in the upper half of your conference.

no, we have played better teams to get us prepared for conference play.

And at the Big South level...many schools play the big boys strictly for the cash. Heck, UNCA funds a large part of its athletic department that way.

Shuck. You really show your age and inexperience in some of your posts man. I am sure you are a good kid and I can't wait for you to come up to our tailgate with Fumble for the 1st football game. But man, your reasoning about scheduling is faulty at best. Let me explain the way most teams schedule at the big south level. You schedule some non conference wins, you schedule a few money games and you schedule some folks in proximity to fill your schedule. At our level it is all about the conference performance. If we win all our non conference games and don't win the bs conference on that Saturday in March, we are home for the tournament. If we lose all of our non-conference games and we win the big south conference championship in March, we go to the tournament. Now you do make sense a little about the strength of schedule matching your team. However you have to look at where your team is in the upcoming season not what you did last season. 1st place or last place in the big south last year doesn't mean that much this year since RMK is new and is really not sure what he has just yet in terms of how good or bad his team will be. He just his team a few months ago. Also fans will never be pleased with your schedule. I happen to like playing 1 or 2 non division 1's each season as a tune up as well as as a few money games. The Longwood, East Carolina, Niagra, George Mason, VCU (Next Season) games are good to have on your non conference schedule as well. Lastly, some of those games on the road at like East Carolina are tougher than you might think. Of course Winthrop just goes on the road and beats teams like ODU but clearly they are the exception rather than the rule. Liberty hopes to get there soon though in the RMK era.

Eic Maynor is a good player. He almost came to Liberty btw. The VCU game next season is in Richmond with Mason coming to Lynchburg then swapping road/home games with those 2 teams the following few years from my understanding. Subject to change of course but it should happen.

Maynor in the Big South would have been something to see--that guy is money. I am looking forward to the TJ/Maynor battle.

I think the way the schedule went this year with some of VA's top-teams. I think establishing some consistancy against teams like VCU and George Mason would be great for Liberty.

Someone call for Baldy!
I like the schedule. I think its' a good balance for our level, talent, and new coach.
Let's face it, in LU BBALL right now it all comes down to winning the conference tourney. Everything else is training time and gravy!

Cider Jim wrote:Scar & Realist, thanks for your west coast & East Carolina perspectives. Last year's team finished with a record of 14-17 (8-6 in conference). Now that we have a new schedule posted, any predictions on McKay's first year record?
I'm gunna have to say a little bit above .500 not cause we don't have the talent to do better or because Mckay is a bad coach, but with a new coach bringing in a new system, it may take some time to get accustomed to. So it may be a rocky start but should end quite nicely with a huge win over VMI (west point rejects) and Radford,

I like the schedule, and the agreements with VCU and GMU are great. Didn't we do a home-and-home one time with ODU as well?

I think McKay and his team, after taking a few lumps, will be just fine come Big South play.

I just wanted to enlighten shukcb04 on our history against VA Tech, since he says a game against them is unwinnable.

I believe the last 3 out of the last 4 times that the LU men played VT in hoops, LU came up with the win, twice in VA Tech's home opener.

Two of those were under Hankinson...and the funny thing was...we struggle so much to win against anyone else, but we had VT's number.

No doubt. I'm just stating the fact, that's all. VT figures to be back to a middle of the pack ACC team at best this year, though.
