Brooks was a technician, always under control, always making the right moves, always patient, and always completing the play. The prototypical white guy, in that you didn't see the athleticism on display, but you knew it was there in some form because he was so good and efficient. (Ask him about the time that me & RD beat him and a 6'8" inch physical specimen named Tim Bluhm ... we were playing by my rules, of course).I didn't know coach Reed coached college ball too. Did he get RD out there to BB? Ken Brooks must have had game because I used to watch him in Drills do a better job of guarding Alston than anyone. Of course he could only do it twice then he had to get back to coaching. I was that guy just a few years later going up against, Reed, White, Jackson and Boykin. Fun times. My former pastor in Fairfax VA David Stokes went to Baptist Bible too and I think he knew RD and Brooks. I think there was a certain pastor from Lynchburg that went on to start a little school and church that attended BB too right?
As far as all coaching honors, you might guess who I believe has been the best, and I think more people will agree when we look back on everything - if we live a few more years. Of course, the records may not bear it out, since Jeff Barber is already working on making sure that the records (1st) make him look brilliant, and (2nd) make his choice as coach look almost as brilliant.
How are we doing with free expression these days?
