This is the weirdest black guy I've ever heard of. He picked Chinese over fried chicken. He also said he likes being in the water. I've never known a black guy who liked to be in the water.

Scar, get on it. Get him back to fried chicken, watermelon, and corn bread.

Super, Coach McKay is from the midwest and northwest, not the boondocks of North & South Carolina, and your post frankly sounds pretty racist, so be careful: those stereotypes just aren't funny anymore.

Chill the pee out. We always make those jokes on here and everyone knows we're joking about it.

You may think your post was just harmless fun SJ, but Fuzzy Zoeller thought he was being funny too. Those are not only steriotypes, they are outdated steriotypes. When I moved to Lynchburg 30 years ago there was 1 Chinese restaurant and I think it's safe to say it didn't have many black customers. Now there are at least a dozen, and one reason is that Chinese-American food (it is really different than true Chinese, adapted to American tastes) is popular in the African-American community, as are water sports, especially jet-ski.

I understand the attempt at humor SJ, but there are some things you should tread lightly on...heck I try to avoid making those types of statements, and I AM black.

Are you kidding me? We make these jokes all of the time with our friends and tailgating. It's a stereotype that is fun to pick around about, just like the south is a bunch of trailor parks and inbreds. How someone can be offended by that joke is simply beyond me. I'm talking about the food part there.

As for the water part, I'm dead serious. Blacks are involved in water sports much less than whites. We discussed it in a class, with two black people, about how blacks tend to stay out of the water more so than whites.

It's not racist. It's having fun and not being offended by every little thing. Stop being so friggin political correct and laugh at yourself for once. It makes life so much more fun.

Chris, I've made that joke to you in person before and you laughed. Apparently things are different on a computer.

So you can't kid around and have fun without using racial steriotypes? You are wrong here SJ, plain and simple. We just hired the first african american head coach in school history and he hasn't been on the job a week and someone has to make a fried chicken and watermelon reference. While you're at it why don't you tell him to dress like Stephan Fetchit and tap dance? On top of that, you have to bring SCAR into it, and when you are confronted with the inappropriateness of your post, instead of offering a mea culpa, you make a lame attempt to defend yourself. I'm sure you don't care, since we've never met, but I have lost a great deal of respect for you tonight.

We've all made jokes about this on here. I can guarantee that if I talked to people off of the board they would make the same jokes. When we heard the interview, I wasn't the first to make the joke. It's a joke. It's not a big deal. I bring Scar into it because I make the joke with him all of the time. People know that I will joke about anything. It's not racist, it's just having fun. If you can't make fun of yourself, then you live a sad life. There was no disrespect behind it. It was a joke made by a 20 year old who likes to have fun. I can't believe someone would get offended by that. That's freaking sad. Get a sense of humor. Holy crap

While I would agree in principle that things should be the same in personal action and on line, there is a significant difference. It's easy for us to forget in our little conversations that the WHOLE WORLD has acess to what we type here, and when you present yourself as a student at LU and a leader of the student fan group, and then make thoughtless and inappropriate remarks like that, it reflects on the school. In case you haven't noticed, we have a number of new contributors to this board from New Mexico. Quite frankly, I'm embarassed, and hope people realize that the attitude you have presented tonight is NOT representative of what Liberty University stands for.

One of the biggest comedians in the country is Carlos Mencia - someone who banks on racial comedy.

Chris Rock, George Lopez, Grabriel Iglesius - all racial comedy, all making fun of everyone, all wildly popular.

You'll laugh at the joke, but then when someone talks about it, you'll say that it was wrong and not funny.

First off, I'm not a leader of any type of student group. I'm just a fan.

As for being a representative of the school, if you get offended by what I say, tell our school to stop branding ourselves "Politically Incorrect Since 1971" and tell our chancellor to stop making the same jokes.

Sorry for the third post, but I just thought of this.

From what little I've gathered of Coach McKay (it's been hard being in Canada), if he knew me like most people who read this board did, I think he would laugh at the joke. He said that he likes to laugh at himself and other people do as well. With my demeanor and personality, anyone who happens to have half a clue about who I am would know I was joking and know that the stereotype isn't true.

honestly all you guys need to lighten up...SJ made a joke, and thats all it was...if you have been on this board for any length of time you know that SJ is not a racist...you also should know that these kind of jokes are made by a lot of people on this board of every race.....its funny....its not racism

I can't believe that SJ has to defend himself on this issue

I wasn't joking when I said I blame espn....espn uses every little thing to paint people as racists....and that is starting to rub off on people....you guys need to chill out and just laugh once in a while

I got your back, SJ. There's a big difference between our boy and Fuzzy Zoeller.

Wow. Between this and the Purple Head thread, this may be the most uptight day in FlameFans history.

I think people don't know what do now on this board now that we have basketball coach...they can't trash on anything because everyone feels good about this hire...so now they are just searching for things to be ticked off about

SJ...did you get to go to a Maple Leafs game???

I have gone to several minor league hockey games but never the NHL...I need to get to one

EDIT::::for the record when i typed this out i did not use the word ticked....it edited the dreaded "P" word for me....weird

I knew it was a joke when I first read it, and didn't think much of it. I'm from Farmville, and every now and then someone will make a redneck joke about me and where I'm from, and I laugh and move on. Why can't we just do that here? We've done it in real life, correct?

Leafs games are sold out months in advance and the scalpers want way too much. We almost went to the Heat/Raptors game but didn't want to drive back into Toronto. We toured the Air Canada Centre though. The place is amazing. Check my Facebook for pictures.
