ESPN noting the hire on the ticker last night with all the Elite 8 scores.

Maybe we shoulda been up front and "warned" Coach McKay that the "Gonzaga of the East" is in our conf. He may have wanted to reconsider - probably quaking in his proverbial boots

No offense, but Ritchie Mckay isn't putting the shakes into anyone. He's a failure looking for a new start. I was hoping for LU's sake they would get someone who is up and coming, not someone falling. I don't think this was a good hire.
Funny you should mention that because Gregg Marshall was under consideration for Ritchie's former job, so I'd say that LU got a Marshall-level coach.

Really?

You consider a coach that has one winning stint in 4 coaching gigs as the level of Marshall, who has never had a losing season?

Maybe he'll work out, but I thought you could have done much better.

1 tourney win over a weak Notre Dame team and you guys have forgotten the last 6 yrs of failure in the first rounds of the dance

PA,

That makes no sense. Winning is winning, he's had the same resources as the other coaches in the conference and dominated. Mckay has had the same resources in other conferences as the schools in those conferences and lost.

Oh, and by the way, we got the win in the tourney too.

Coach McKay had arguably the best job in the WAC and couldn't get it done. JB was scrambling to find his Afro-american coach he proclaim will do so much better thatn rd. the best thing for mckay is that dunton does leave one of the top two talented rosters in the league. the dice have been rolled and we will see what everyone thinks of jb in two years.

I had a bet with myself as to whether you or grm would come out with something negative like this first. I just didn't expect it would have racist overtones as well.

Let's look at the last 5 years.

82-67 playing in the Mountain West (Yes New Mexico is in the Mountain West, not the WAC)
66-85 playing in the Big South

Which sounds more like "couldn't get it done".

I think we upgraded, but only time will tell.

for the record- and I don't think OLDFLAME was saying this either- I've never known GRM to be racist

he may disagree with some here, but he's always been above board and respectful. unlike LUREAL

just to clarify

For the record , I merely suggested that IMHO the comment by lureal had racist overtones, and did not intent to paint grm with that brush in any way. I only mentioned grm because in some of his recent posts he continues to express resentment over RD's dismissal.

Maybe Marshall should have tried harder for that job...but they prob wanted someone with mid major or major basketball experience....so he couldnt help it

LUnreal,
If he is such a good coach, how come no D1 schools are doing "cartwheels" to hire him?

I am sure you will be here with some of the kool aid drinkers next year saying how much better off "we would have been" but you need to let it go, your hero is gone and will never return.

You going to the press conference tomorrow morning?

listen i am not racist. jb is the one to stated to staff and team he was going to hire an afro-american high major assistant. hold him accountable for his statements. best wishes for coach mckay's success.
rd is done and he can be proud of taking the worst program in the league to consistently winning at home and on the road throughout his 5 years in bsc. now it is on jb and rm. let everyone cheer now we will see in january and february.

Thanks for clearing up the WAC error. That said, I think y'all are getting a great hire in Coach McKay. Yes, he couldn't make it at UNM, but if he had, would he be interviewing at Liberty? He came to UNM early in his life and was not ready to coach in the media and fan fishbowl the comes with The Pit. I think if he had six more years at some place like Portland State, he would have done fine in Albuquerque. Since Winthrop will lose their coach this year, Liberty will prob. have the best coach in the Big South. Step up for him---He's been fired and that stings--and give him a chance. I really think you will be happy with him.

Good Luck!

Oh, McKay is good friends with Alford...Come to The Pit for a money game!

flameshaw-just make sure you are confident that dunton did a bad job so you can honestly compare what gets done. if marshall and peterson stay maybe you will figure out how tough it is to win conference games and what rd did to go 2-1-2-3 and leave us with talent not what he inherited. so let the jb/rm pep rally begin however some of us will support but reserve the right to watch and see.

Dont let a few of our posters reflect everyone....RM will be greeted better than anywhere else he's been (I dare say  )....Liberty is a very very loving place and since he doesnt have any strings attached to RD and JM (2 of our previous coaches) I'm sure he'll be given a fair shot from everyone

Hope you stick around and talk with us...

Lunreal,

Why didn't you hold RD accountable for his statements? Didn't he say he would be in the top 50 in 5 years? Now we find out he was thinking gymnastics (cartwheels) instead of basketball.

Consistently winning on the road and at home with a losing record? How does that happen? You need to look through your love affair for RD and look at reality my friend.

LUnreal,
Didn't your hero coach 5 years? Why do you only mention 4 years of conference finishes? Why don't you tell us where that finish was? Also, I am sure you are quoting the best finsh based on the reguar season or the tourney finish, whichever is better. How about 3 years in a row of 1 and done? Your blind loyalty to a coach with a losing record says much more about you and your "knowledge" of the game than anyhting else you post here. Hey, maybe RD will let you be his "I love you" coach whever he lands.
