it really does boil down to what your Def. of Player of the year is...is it the best player #'s wise (which LB isnt) or is it the player that helps his team win the most...ARod is a good example

To me an MVP is a player who helps his team win the most, but a player of the year is the best player number wise. I think it should have been LB, but it's hard to argue against it since we were 3-13. If we were at least 8-8 in league play, I would be very irate if he did not win it.

Look at all of the numbers again. Points aren't the only number to look at.

LB only beat Leasure in one category and that was points. Leasure beat LB in assists and steals if I'm not mistaken. LB wasn't even in the top five in the conference in those.

LB was ahead of Leasure in steals & rebounds. But we get your point, SJ. Nobody is arguing that the shooter from CCU isn't worthy. A year ago it was a different story. Maybe its time for us to let it go ... but it doesn't come easy.

Well, if they were smart, or competent, they wouldn't be coaching / working for a Big South school.

There. I said it.
Wow..nothing like a blanket insult on a bunch of people, including several at your own school...

WEF - You know by now that we have issues with the league. But it is where we are so we should be making the most of it. But its tough for many of us to stomach being tied to the UNCAs & HPUs of the world. Are we acting too big for opur britches? Probably. But when you think big then dissatisfaction is often a byproduct.

I guess, but painting everyone who coaches and works in any league (whether it be a league like the ACC or some random JuCo league in California) as stupid and incompentent is a slap in the face at alot of people that work hard and are good at what they do (even if some aren't as good as others)...The comment just rubbed me the wrong way and I have never coached or worked in the conference. It's one thing to be dissatisfied, it is another to insult an entire group of people like that...

I think Ed was trying to be a little theatrical in his comments. But you are correct that it was certainly over the top.

Three pages and I haven't even jumped in yet.

LB was a given- a decent season and he should finally get his POY next year.

Great to see Monroe in there, and- MAN- does Mr. Smith have potential. That guy's gonna be amazing. Congrats to all the guys

Guest, if you re-read my post I never said anything about Larry having the greatest numbers in the league; I simply said that if we were 8-8 or better he should have and probably would have won the player of the year because he so dominant in the league. I guarantee you that he lost alot of votes just because of our record which should be the case. I am not upset that he didn't win though. He shouldn't have. Congratulations to Jack, but I would take LB any day over anyone else in the league!

The number of competent executives, or coaches, in college basketball isn't exactly legion. And, they tend to migrate towards larger, better conferences. No one says "Hot diggity! All those years of tough work finally paid off! Now, I've risen to the top of my profession -- marketing director of the Big South!"

Point:
Your Greg Marshall has accomplished everything that he's going to accomplish in the Big South. As far as I'm concerned, Greg Marshall is a "good" coach. But a few years ago, he was ready to leave Winthrop high-and-dry... but the schools he was shopping around at decided against hiring him. So, he remains in the BS.

As we don't want to be tied in to the UNCA's of the world, I am quite certain that, at least academcically, the UNCA's and HPU's aren't real thrilled at being tied to the LU's of the world.

Ed, I have to disagree whole heartedly with your assessment of the Big South people. I am not exactly a champion for this conference and it's decisions particularly when it comes to Liberty but to indict everyone that works in this conference as basically being a loser is narrow minded at best. This is a division 1 competitive sport (if you are just talking basketball). There are so many variables, and factors that weight into a decision to work here not to mention resources at these schools compared to others. You can't make blanket statements like that about people and their lives and lively-hood. It is irresponsible and foolish. Just like you can't say that everyone associated with the Big 10 or ACC or Big East is competent because they made it to what you percieve as the big time. The truth is there are qualified people on every level in all areas and there are incompetent people in all conferences in all areas. Everyone needs to be judged on their own merit. I don't know if you graduated from Liberty but what if everyone in your work place assumed you were less than your coleague because you went to Liberty and not Tennessee (insert school of your choice here). Add to that the fact that because of their perceptions they never gave you any opportunities and assumed you were a loser. That is called guilt by association and it is unfair bacause you could be the brightest guy there and all of your talent would be going to waste. Don't let perceptions about certain conferences or teams cloud your judgement. I have a friend that 7 years ago didn't want any teams in the NCAA's that weren't in the ACC or the power conferences. No Creighton, Gonzaga, St Joes or anyone else regardless of how well they do that year. Again, that is narrow minded to think that only the best players go to the power conferences. Who would you take in a game Gonzaga or Clemson? My friend would have bet his entire riches on Clemson and would be broke because his perception was Clemson must be better because they are in the ACC. Sorry for the long post but it just rubbed me the wrong way even if you were using hyperbole. Too many good people that do good work and work hard were slighted by your wide sweeping comments. You are entitled to your opinion and I respect it but I beg to differ.
