Got a good phone call from a reader in town and he made another suggestion for the coaching list: Florida State associate head coach Stan Jones.

His bio: http://seminoles.cstv.com/sports/m-bask ... tan00.html

He's been with Leonard Hamilton for years and his father was a prominent baptist minister. Interesting.

Let's all hope that Stan's Dad's first name isn't BOB, or we'll be forced to another rant & rave from SCAR about that college in Greenville, SC. :P

Eh, I'm not impressed. Fla. State supposedly had these great recruiting classes from this guy, but if you look at the numbers, those athletes aren't impressive -- and it's reflected in Fla. State's 7-9 record in conf. play.

I just got excited because he was from FL.

I don't know if I like the idea of hiring someone who just got canned. I think I would prefer a successful Assistant.

I don't like the idea of hiring someone that was just canned either. Either way you go, its a gamble.

Two things are a must when considering the coach.

--Major success as a head coach at DII, DIII and HS. Preferable a great record at at least the DII level. You're not going to find a very successful DI coach he just won't be available, unless he retired, in which case he is probably too old. .500 win pct or coaches with a barely above .500 record needn't apply. I don't care how much experience they have. (Hankinson's record was marginal coming into LU, that should have told us something)

--Good recruiter: He must be experienced in this area with a proven track record.

For the coach to meet these criteria he would almost certainly have to be an associate head coach, or assistant at the DI level.

Yes, he will have had to tasted the big time at some point...I'm thinking that he'll be a minority as well...just a gut instinct but what the heck to I know

I don't necessarily have a problem with hiring someone who "didn't have their contract renewed". Show me someone who has never been fired from a job and I'll show you one of 2 things: an extremely high achiever or someone who never challenged himself to take on a job which stretched his limitations. I'd venture to say there are a lot more of the latter than the former.

JF is fond of saying that the way to judge a man's charactor is "by what it takes to keep him down". Don't get me wrong, I think a candidate for this job should have an overall track record of success, because the bottom line is finding someone who knows how to WIN, but falling short of the expectations of their most recent employer shouldn't be a deal-breaker if they exhibit the charactor and skills to face the new challenge. I personally have mixed feelings about RD and the decision to let him go, but look how many people on this board think he got a raw deal and should still be coach.

Good stuff. But when I think of Bob Jones I think of the golfer from a long time ago and the 76ers power forward from the 80's (btw he coached former Flame Jody Chapman in HS). Besides, the Bob Jones you speak of would not have any brotha's on the team :P

No. I'd like your opinion, and the opinion of others who saw him play. I didn't keep up with him, only saw him play a few times, but felt that he was extremely athletic, and, as a freshman, seemed confident and unintimdated by the best in the BS.

What are you going to do with a Winnebago? Why not keep your home, save some money, and travel for a month out of the year. Rent a car, motel 6's.... Wouldn't it be cheaper with less headaches? I'll never be able to retire - so it doesn't matter to me - unless you've got an extra room in your Winnebago.

Barney stole Ted's moving truck and was parking it behind the bar so he could hook up with girls in it. At the end, they had a top ten list of names for it.

I hereby confess to being completely lost. Yes, I am guilty of mis-reading, and, having said that, I had no idea whatsoever
of what is being referred to as a winnebango... Of course I could guess/surmise, but would rather have you (all) (I'm a Yankee) inform me.

To answer your other question...Nick Wright was a decent player who thought he was significantly better than he actually was. There were quite a few discipline issues as well. He transferred out, but do not know the reason why/

I knew there were adjustment problems - wondered your opinion on the playing part.

Plus - I'm starting to get the drift on the Winne-whatever. Who are Barney and Ted?
