Mantlo was playing for a JUCO school in Colorado (or Wyoming, I can't remember which one), when Hankinson was coaching LU. Hanky leaves, Dunton enters, Mantlo transfers.

Mantlo never played under Hanky.
Ed, we've got 3 on the board (including me) who think you have YOUR facts all wrong. You better double check your calendar, my friend.

I checked w/ the Liberty media guide.

Mantlo spent two years at LU (pg. 139), 2003 and 2004.

Mantlo was a captain at LU for those two years, 2003 and 2004 (pg. 134).

Mel Hankinson was fired in 2002 (also pg. 134).

I'm confused. I think you 2 are arguing the same point. The only wrong person here is Jim.

I'm confused also. Mantlo came in with Dunton. His first year was Dunton's first year back.

Are you thinking of Carl Williams? He used to be a good player at West Virginia, where Hanky was an asst. coach. He transferred to LU (around the time that Hanky did), sat out a year but played when he was a senior under Hankinson. And led the nation in steals that year.

Can somebody get Mantlo or Mel on the horn? I would have bet the farm that Hankinson brought Ryan in, and I wasn't confusing him with Williams, I'm sure. Where does this cheerleader mom story fit in? Dunton's not old enough to have coached while a mom was cheering, and LU was Dunton's first college coaching job.

Maybe the cheerleading story is associated with Hankinson and a DIFFERENT player at LU. Does anybody else remember the cheerleader story?

Yes I remember...Save the cheerleader, save the world. Any Heroes fans out there, anyone? Actually I don't even watch that show...As far as Mantlo goes, he didn't play for Mel. I know Ryan and his mom and dad pretty well and I never heard that story Jim. I know for a fact he never played for Hanky.

I trust you, Scar. Like I said, that story must be of Mel and another player at LU other than Mantlo, but it couldn't be too hard to figure out--how many players did Mel recruit during his tenure here? And of those, how many of them had cheerleading moms? Or, I wonder if Mel signed Mantlo but then Hanky left before Ryan ever got here and he ended up with Dunton as his coach. The big question is, who RECRUITED Mantlo?

Open the case--maybe Bob Davis was coaching where Mantlo's mom was cheering! :P
Or, does anyone know if Jeremy Monceaux's mother was ever cheerleading during Mel's younger coaching days?
