Is Brand New really that popular? Last time I saw them was in a 300 person capacity club in 2002. No one really knew who they were. It went down like this...

nothing to do with koolaide but should I quote any one of your posts, whinning about kids doing the same thing during football season? You can do what you want but it's pretty hypocritical.

I've heard the concert was free and I've heard the concert was $5, so.. I don't know, but either way, it's cheap, so I'm sure a lot of people will be there, and it's in the LC gym - so, it will be a very tightly packed in crowd. Personally, if I can hear someone on a cd, I don't really care to go to a concert these days. But, maybe if they can't get into the concert, they won't have anything else to do and go to the game.

 that's the same thing i was thinking. c'mon SJ. this is a big game for us. the crowd doesn't do anything but sit and watch anyway. we need someone to lead the crowd in chants or something. there really isn't a home court advantage if the crowd isn't making noise when we are on defense.

i know everyone going to the concert is going to say, "if we start winning, then maybe we would come to the games"

well they weren't that popular but they took time off and it is as if their popularity skyrocketed during the time off...now I am not saying they are the biggest thing out there right now...but their shows have been selling out in less then 2 days, and its really rather surprising, their cd sold 80 to 85,000 in the first week...so in the 3 years they took off i guess they have seen the effect the internet can have on a band...

but yes....basketball

I never once said something about people going to concerts. My problem was with people going to games at other schools instead of LU. Anyone that knows me knows that music comes before anything for me. When else can I see a great band for $5 instead of $25 (what their tickets normally are)? If I was skipping this for another game, sure, get on me for it. However, I'm skipping it for a concert which is a completely different thing.

How people think LU sports are second-rate. It just flat out makes me mad. Most recent case: I read a friend's away message and it said they were going home for the weekend. I was next to this person during the St. Paul's game. They said they were going home this week. I IMed them asking if they were going to miss our game. Their response was that they'd be in Chapel Hill on Saturday watching the Tech game. They haven't missed a Tech game since 94 and don't plan on starting now. The only games they will be at are William and Mary and Coastal. That just makes me mad. One of the biggest reasons I can't find people to go to Towson is because it will cost money. People have said the only reason they go to LU games is because they're free. What the freaking crap? I don't see how someone can pay to go to school and not even support their own classmates on the field? That just ticks me off. Sorry to go on a rant, I felt like it was needed.
But I suppose you did say field instead of court.

Great point, SJ I am a little surprised, It's hard enough to bring any team to the Vines Center but to get a C-USA team to come it's a pretty big game for us....

i guess im showing my age, but who is brand new?? agreed GMTM, when a C-USA teams comes to town, it is a big game, and i see LUconn's point as well, but SJ has done quite a bit this year in support of the programs....i will let it slide this time :D

Once again, I used this point with Manger the other day, one game in a 12-13 game home schedule is a lot different than a 6 game home schedule.

Also, that is taken out of context. That entire rant is about people going to other schools and paying for those games when they've never been to that school. It's two completely different cases. I could've went to Wake vs VaTech this year but went to LU vs VMI instead, and paid.

This is straight from my Facebook profile:

It's not that important I guess. But come on, Brand New? They won't even be around in 5 years. I guess I would understand more if it were more of a band that is gonna withstand the test of time and you could say you were proud to have been to one of their concerts like Greenday or U2 or The Rolling Stones. (in case anybody's wondering, I don't really like any of them.)

BUT ANYWAY, how about that ECU? Boy are we gonna beat them.

Unless they break up, Brand New will be around. They've already been around 4 years and I haven't been able to see them. I wouldn't go to a Green Day concert now if you paid me. I hate the way they sound.

Back to ECU:

They're not any good.

What scale are we using...it's not the same "not very good" scale that the last 2 teams on our home court...I hope not or that is one BIG scale

At least I'm taller than you.

No, ECU is not as bad as the last two teams we played, but if we expect to finish in the top 3 of our conference we better win this game by 15-20.

Yikes!!!! 15 - 20!!! thats a HUGE win considering it's going to be night and day for our boys to transition from these NAIA teams to C-USA....I'll take a close win...and maybe later on after playing a lot of good teams I'd want a win with a bigger margin

well, in defense to Brand New they will be around for years go come unless of course some band drama happens and they break up...they are a good band and though I understand calling SJ out because of statements he has made in the past ut I am not sure if this stands up with the things he has said in the past....if he makes this a regular habit then maybe, but this guy has been LU's biggest supporter all year long and I don't think by him missing one basketball for a band he loves is a big deal...let him enjoy himself....but unless you love Brand New I don't see any reason going. I have seen them a couple times and they are good, but not great....and last year at LC the motion city soundtrack show was terribly done, so I wouldn't expect anything less from LC...

Anyways....ECU I think is better then they have been in years past from everything I have read about them, but we should win this game...but by 15 to 20?? thats crazy talk........

I think we should win this game with a good 8-10 point margin but I'm just not sold on the team yet. Part of this is obviously I've only had 1 chance to evaluate them playing against D1 competition. And OU is looking like a worse loss than I originally had thought. So really, I hope we win, but who knows, we havent seen the team play but once.

I have seen ECU and studied them a little and I can tell you they are light years better than last year's 8-20 team. They have 10 new players including a redshirt and their big men are pretty athletic but the 2 that start are freshman. Gabe Blair is gonna be a stud. Their guards are way better than what they are getting credit for at this stage. They are quick and can shoot and pressure the ball. This is gonna be a tough game. Why is everyone disrespecting ECU so much?

Scar,

I'm just going off of what I saw last year when they came to the coliseum (and the fact that they've been pretty bad the last few years aside from beating a couple of middle of road Cusa teams).

I thought they were possibly the worst D1 opponent we faced. Bad players, bad coaching, no ability to break a press, etc. etc.--they did have one good post player but he is gone I believe. If it is the same guards I saw last year, I wasn't impressed at all.

Maybe they are better with the freshmen, I'm just going off of what I saw.

Their primary players are all new and talented. They are much better than last year. Hinnant is the only player left from 2 seasons ago. Jenkins is their leading scorer at 14 a game and I assure you he would handle a press from just about anyone. He can handle the ball. Richmond is tall and athletic and he shredded their press. Jenkins is a juco transfer that has been at 3 other schools the past couple of seasons. He enrolled at UNLV but didn't play and then went juco. Trust me Realist, this is not the team you saw last year and I think they will win some CUSA games this year esp at home. They will be competitive in most of their conference games too I think. If Liberty wins this game they are going to have to play very well. I am not saying that as a TV analyst but as someone that has seen both teams play. I believe that Liberty should win the game but I am saying that a win over ECU will be big for the program at this stage considering last season.

Gotcha, I know you call it like you see it after your comments about LU's team last year at the Coliseum. I hope they are not too much improved as we have to go to their place this year.

Realist, you know I keep it real just like you 8) If you tune in Saturday night (shameless plug) you will see a much improved team on both the ECU bench and the Liberty bench. And I think that was 2 seasons ago when I went down to your place to watch the game. Can you believe how time flies? You have to get up to Lynchburg at some point soon too. I promise I will have our fans treat you nicely.

It was two years ago??? I thought it was this past season, b/c we talked about how Hubbard shouldn't be running the point. I could be wrong.

I wish I could get up there again, but the away game always seems to fall on something else. This year I have to do the obligatory wake-nc state game on the same day as the LU away game to appease my fiance. She comes to about just about every WU game with me so I have to give her at least one, and that's the one she requested.

The last time I visited vines wasn't good for either of us, that was the year of the RU-UNCA finale.
