I never said that they'll be playing next seaon.. I said we have a good squad already and a transfer would be great based on college level basketball experience. They could still be beneficial for the season/post season without playing(through practices, etc.). Also when I stated the Homesley incident, I was stating based on future seasons. God firbid that a player get injured and cannot play again. We will have college experience ready to make any changes for the season(s) to come. The other option is not a bad one either but transfer experience have a better chance of us gaining better recruits in the future.

Familiar system, number one option, close to Cville, and the schools atmosphere/resources.

A lot of things in Liberty's favor. Lets hope he has a good visit!

I'm trying to keep an open mind on Shayok, even though I really dislike the "sit one and play one" scenario. My trust level for McKay is pretty much through the roof right now, and he obviously knows the kid well. If Ritchie believes he will be a good fit with the team culture and can make enough of an impact in that one year to be worth it, I can hold my nose and say I'm good with that.
We will have some big shoes to fill that year with Kemrite gone, but we will also have 3 other talented swing players on the roster.

I knew Liberty had plans for Martin to visit but after his first visit he committed to CSU so you can scratched that. I wonder how Shayok's visit went. Iowa State is going after a slew of transfers along with a few offers out there for HS recruits. 6 Transfers to be exact.

Visit reportedly went really well. He was blown away by our facilities. Sounds like it's between Iowa State and Liberty, though Marquette is also making a push.

That sounds positive. I really feel that we have a stronghold because of our location. I mean he has already settled in central Virginia and I'm sure he still has friends in the Charlottesville area. Then again I could be wrong.

Maybe they hired the CCU cheerleading squad to host his recruiting visit.

I have exactly the same reservations, but because Ritchie knows him so well, I will be all in with it if he goes in that direction. Having said that, I will alsoreserve the right to flip if he flops and say "I told you so". 8)

Already being fluent in pack line also weights heavily in his favor.

I was about to make that point. In a system that takes years to enact, having an experienced body from the best example in the NCAA can't hurt. I think our guys, think GPO, could really benefit from an upperclassman that is fluent in the system. Some things are better from student leaders than they are from the coaches.

Name one other athletic player on the uva roster. Crickets, not very impressive. I would much rather get a grad transfer to help this year. He didnt play all that much defense anyway. Thats why he found himself with limited minutes for his entire career. To me he also plays out of control on offense.

I didn't limit it to UVA. That's why I said 'the floor'.

You guys are ridiculous. This is Liberty, a middle of the pack (being generous) Big South team that has had exactly 1 winning season in 6 years. We’ve been ranked in the top 200 nationally twice in the last 20 years. As it currently stands, we have 2 empty scholarships for next year. Anybody else out there that will have an immediate impact that’s worth passing up on someone with Shayok’s pedigree?

We get 13 scholarships each year, it’s not like we’re going to go 13 deep. It’s no big deal to have a scholarship tied up an extra year for an immediate impact player.

Shayok would instantly be a starter and arguably the best player on the team, not to mention the experience factor. He beat Kemrite like a dog in open gym over the weekend. The same Ryan Kemrite that is a senior, team leader & captain, and leading scorer.

We’re going toe to toe with Iowa State, Marquette, and others for a guy who averaged 10ppg on a team that won a game in the NCAA Tournament. He has 103 games of experience in the ACC, including 8 NCAA Tournament games. Anybody else on the roster with that pedigree?

Pedigree is a dog food. Ill take the upside and years of gardner homesley mcdowell etc. I dont want to see their minutes go to a 1 year tape job unless hes a legit top player. Id much rather have a grad transfer big and give newton the other.

Imagine how much better they will be going up against him in practice for 2 years

He is good enough to be player of the year in the BigSouth. In other words if he comes to LU he will be the best player in the league. We should be happy he is even considering us at this point. That speaks volume for coach McKay and the program.
