First you lose big. Then you lose close. Then you win close. Then you win big. This season was supposed to be the losing big season. If we skip that and go to losing close (anything within 10) then I’m thrilled.

I will say this, the team has already exceeded my expectations. A little depth will go a long way and I think some is on the way which is encouraging.

I agree. It's clear W&M made adjustments to stop the open shots we were getting, but I don't think any of us expected this to be within 10 or so (or, at least anyone who's honest)

W&M made some adjustments and we ran out of gas. In a year or two with a full roster, we'll be in the top part of the league.

I think being an assistant for six years really helped Ritchie become a better coach.

We are all aware that this IS William & Mary, a team that has never been to the NCAAs before, that we are losing close to, right? I didn't think we'd win, I was fully expecting a loss, but I wasn't expecting to be blown out either.

I expected a 20 point loss. That is how little faith I had in this team. We will steal some games in conference. That's for sure.

We barely beat a DIII picked next to last in their conference two games ago.

I was expecting a 20+ point loss tonight.

i don't see how history has to do with this year. w&m is a vet team that returns four starters from back to back caa championship appearances. plus they destroyed ncstate. granted they might not be good but still an acc team.

this team is definitely not going to finish last, imo. i actually think they will steal a few games, when shots are going in. maxwell will be a problem in the future. same with cabill. definitely going to look forward when dawson is eligible.

What an exciting game. I know as it was said in a previous reply that this is only William and Mary, but this will be the best William and Mary team that they have ever had. And regardless of the losses that NC State endured on their roster, its still an ACC team and one that will win at least 18 games. So, to minimize their win against State is absurd. Our boys fought hard tonight and I for one was so impressed that we kept the turnovers below 10! The differential in the free throw shooting was the difference in the game as well as the rebounding difference. But, if anyone were to say that William and Mary is on a different level than we are, I would ask did you watch the game! Not gonna lie fellas, I feel pretty good about my 15 win prediction. :) Have a blessed night and Go Flames

It appears that way.

Maybe. This is only game three.

It's only game three, but you can tell from the things Ritchie is saying that he's learned and grown as a coach. He's giving his players room to fail while still pushing them to get better. That's a lot different than the guy who gave certain players the red light from shooting.

It's not all there just yet, but I definitely saw flashes of what this team can be in another couple years. When Attencia is passing well and Cabble is shooting well that's a DEADLY combination.

We'll have to wait and see how the season continues. In my opinion it is too early to say "we already look better prepared" and "he's learned and grown as a coach" given that we have played two very bad D-IIIs and a very solid W&M team. I'm waiting until after the Challenge in Music City to see where things stand.

AC site´s take on the game with Nick interviewing Fields and McKay.

http://www.liberty.edu/flames/index.cfm ... 6&TeamID=6

Ritchie is obviously pleasantly surprised by Maxwell´s performance. Don´t hold me to the exact words, but he basically said if our future opponents need to pack it inside to stop Evan like W&M did , we have the shooters to do some serious damage down the road. If you had told me at the end of last season that Maxwell would be physically able to play 30 minutes against a quality opponent this soon, I would probably have laughed. Henry Barrera is our secret weapon.

Several times last night Maxwell was triple teamed in the paint. When that happens, if he can kick it out to the open shooter, this is a team that can hit some uncontested threes.

He is a strong addition to the program and well-liked by the players.

Just for the record the 1982-83 team would have been ranked in the Top 25 but back in the day they only had a Top 20. I believe they peaked at what would have been 24 in the other teams receiving votes. They won well over 10 games in a row at one point including one over a solid Wake Forest team. They lost to JMU on a last second shot to miss the tournament that year. One final note on that team, according to some of the students on campus at the time Duke's "upset" of William and Mary at Cameron was one of the wins that helped Coach K keep his job. So I don't think this is the best ever team, but goodness knows I hope they break the NCAA tournament drought.
