What's the deal with the Flames site using a game photo from LU-St. Francis to accompany yesterday's Coastal story? Are we that embarrassed? And I love how the lede quickly reminds us about that win over Campbell.

Not really...and for the record I have no desire to read the books or see the movie, a sentiment shared by my wife. I find them to be pornographic and not something that I can watch or read with a clear conscience.

The problem I have right now is that people are getting mean. It's one thing to think Layer needs to go and that we need a new coach. It's another to call him a bum, clown, or other things that are personal.

When he's calling multiple timeouts while we're down by 40 with a minute left, and then shaking the hands of the opposing team before the game is over, he's embarrassing the school. Compared to the reactions of fans at other schools with similar situations, this response is very very mild.

I'm with you on this one SJ. I agree that DL's actions yesterday were inappropriate, and don't reflect well on LU, but the name calling (clown, fool etc.) has been going on for some time, and as far as I know with no reason other than the team is bad. They certainly are, and I think yesterday's performance by the team, and Dale's actions at the end of the game may have sealed his fate.

Our comparison shouldn't be what other schools do. What makes us different as a school should be what makes us different in our treatment of players and coaches. You can be passionate and respectful. Keep it about the actions and results, not the person.

So if you haven't seen the movie or read the book how do you know if you consider it pornographic? Or are you basing it on what other people say? People who probably haven't read the books or seen the movie. How do you know it isn't more along the lines of erotica as opposed to pornography? Can you really make that judgement based on no first hand knowledge? If it was considered pornographic why would Big Box Retailers sell it instead of a place like Bambi Leah's Massage Parlor and Books?

So again, life is lived in the middle ground and grey area.

Agreed, name calling doesn't accomplish anything in this case, neither does firing him with only a couple more weeks left in the season.
I find it hard to believe we won't make a change after the season, it is certainly the correct thing to do after so many disastrous campaigns. No need to extend the inevitable past this year.
Hoping we find the right guy to be our next coach, we have been a mediocre/poor program for a lot of years. Other than leadership, there is really no excuse for it either.

A quick glance at search results shows that Layer has never been called a clown. The term "bum" doesn't show up. Now he was called a fool, but the community pretty much jumped on the commentator for that one.

All in all, I don't think these threads have gone off the deep end.

It's been fairly respectable on here. That's a credit to the FF community. It's been much worse on Facebook and Twitter.

Yeah, twitter can do that to people. It's so quick and easy nobody has time to filter what their saying and by the time they do they've already clicked send.

I know because I've said some stupid crap on twitter before that I had to go back and delete.

Basing it on reading people who are much more familiar with the series and were able to speak to just how sexual the series is.

I dont know that this is happening as much as you say it is, but I dont think that it is right to do. In all honesty though, how can you fault someone for expressing how they feel if they really feel that way or if others around them feel that way? The same lack of tact is shown by anyone who said to you that those players were thugs. Why are you a higher ground for someone telling you how they feel over expressing it on twitter? The only difference is we dont get to see the real source when you brought it up. Its going on the internet either way, its wrong either way, and its mostly built on assumptions either way.

Im not going to call him any names, but after having multiple interactions with many of his players, I can say he is about as good of a person to his players as he is a recruiter and talent evaluator.

SJ, Im not taking shots at you, just drawing a line of comparison. It's the beauty of the internet and everyone having a voice. Even the dumb ones get a voice. Dale isnt the first coach (not even the first one at Liberty to have to put up with it) and he certainly wont be the last.

Ok, that's news to me. I know I haven't followed this program for long but I always thought he was a nice guy, a bad recruiter maybe, but a nice enough guy.

Recruiting is the problem with LU basketball . To win a school has to recruit well. We have not done that. Our talent is the most inferior in BSC.

I'll move on outside of a passing mention of ballcoach again repeating one of his three talking points on basketball for the umpteenth time...

If coach Layer acted in a way even remotely abusive toward a player, they need to go to someone about it...ideally JLFJR.

For those of us in the real world there is a space between Abuse and Lovey Dovy. Players can be ignored by coaches. Or lied to about coaches or told one thing only to have a coach do something different. On the other hand you would have to define 'abuse'. Would lifting weights until you threw up be abuse? What about cleaning the equipment room with a tooth brush?
