I may be misinformed, but its Bluefield an NAIA school? if that's the case. we gave up 61 points to an NAIA school, that is quite depressing in my book. I don't have much good to say so I will stop there.

The number of points allowed is not necessarily a good indicator of how good or bad your defense is. It has a lot more to do with tempo. In any event, 61 points is not a lot, but more importantly Bluefield only shot 34%, which is actually a good figure, and it is the 4th straight opponent we have held under 35%. My point is, while this team obviously has significant issues, they are almost exclusively on offense, not defense. Excuse me for daring to take a tiny sip of Koolaid in this depressingly negative thread, but I am actually encouraged by this. A team that plays good defense has something they can pretty much count on every game. We can build on that. Tighten up on the turniovers and I believe this team can still be pretty good.

College basketball is about offense.

Moller scored 22 vs Bluefield. It will be interesting to see how he follows that in next game.

Therefore, if you stop the other team's offense, you are doing a good thing.

True, but if you stop other team, you still need to score on other end. LU's problems are on offense more than defense.

Ah, so it is about offense and defense then. I admit LU has serious offense issues. I just took exception to your position that college BB is about offense only.

If I wanted to concede ther point that the defense looked good your have to extremely temper said enthusiasm when you realize it looked good against NAIA competition. We don't play at the NAIA level

350 out of 351 is not good. I think it's safe to say that Men's basketball is by far the weakest sport on Liberty Mountain. Why ?

So would I. 1997 is more like it.

BTW, we have also held our last 3 D1 opponents to 35% shooting or less, but 2 of those were bad losses because of turnovers and overall poor offense.

That's the question though. Are we holding those teams to <35% shooting because our defense is good or the other teams offense is bad?

Look up their shooting percentages in their other games and that'll tell you...or we could just send one of our resident stat hounds to get that info (Paging BJ Williams)

Oops, got my numbers crossed up. I meant hold a team to 61 and lose 61-60.

Defensive numbers in basketball are over rated. Usually it means you "held" the ball, drained the shot clock, thus a low scoring game. had very little to do with how well you played defense.
