My only comment to checkers is to say, "I don't know"

Ballcoach, I like Alan to be honest...maybe its because Im a broadcaster too but I think thathe has good energy and pace and keeps the information flowing. I kinda was that way calling Amherst basketball a couple years ago and energy for both sides isnt necessarily a bad thing.

How can this program with it resources not be a top three team in the BSC?
I don't watch MSNBC but I do know who Rachel Maddow is. Are you saying that I am wrong or that I am painting a rosy picture? I don't think I said anything that is inaccurate. I certainly did underscore the fact that everyone is frustrated with the way the season is going. My main point is that the team is still in the process of the season and the story hasn't been completely written. I for one would be very happy for this team and fan base if they were to win the Tournament again.

Having said that, I would have to admit that as a fan, former player, layer of the foundation of this program, etc, I am really disappointed in where the team is at this stage in terms of record. I really thought that they would pile up the wins this season with so many seniors and what I believe is a talented group. Do I get elevated to O'Reilly status now or am I still an MSNBC employee?

I heard somewhere going into last night that teams are shooting close to 76% against Liberty in the last 5 minutes.

Random sampling of the final five minutes for opponents in close games:
Longwood 4-8
Coastal 6-7
High Point 3-5
Campbell 2-7
VMI 4-8
Furman 2-4
Austin Peay 4-6
Sam Houston State 4-8

So you're onto something there. Maybe not 76 percent, but well above 50.

As for the comments on York, count me as a fan of his work. I really like his energy and passion and I have told him that. I get excited at times on TV games when the other team makes a good play. I just love good basketball period. I don't like to listen to homer announcers very much and I don't want to call the game that way myself.

I know I'm biased because he has been my friend, teammate, and co-worker but Paul Nazigian adds a lot of value to the radio broadcasts as well. He wasn't able to make the trip down south but he will be there for most if not all the games the rest of the season after this trip.

Thanks Scribe. I knew I could count on you to crystalize my thoughts. Close games are usually won on the defensive end. Arizona at Stanford last night was a prime example. Arizona gave up exactly 1 FG in the last 10 minutes of the game. They hit a couple of tough shots of their own and got out with a win maintained their perfect record.

Ok good stab at being fair & balanced. You really believe this frontline is better than the one with Gabe Martin, idk all the names?

That 2004 team was solid up front but I think this one is better:

2004 Team

Gabe Martin 6-5 swing that could shoot the 3. Poor ball handler, good rebounder could defend 4 positions well.
Louvon Sneed - 6-8 strong center that could defend well. Decent hands. Not an explosive athlete.
Jason Sarchet - 6-8 strong center. decent rebounder. Tough minded.
Glyn Turner - 6-8 power forward/center. Physical tough player. Not a big scorer.

2014 Team

J.R. Cornonado - Shooting 60% FG on season. One of the best rebounders in program history (think Alex McLean)
Antwan Burrus - Second all time in shot blocking in school history at just 6-6. Excellent outside shooter, average rebounder. Good post defender due to strength. Leading scorer on the team.
Joel Vander Pol - Shooting 70% plus in conference play. Reliable 5 man at 6-10 but gets in frequent foul trouble. Could start for this team or the 2004 team IMO.
Andrew Smith - One of the best dunkers in program history (Along with Anthony Smith, Gabe Martin, Phillip Ward, Julius Nwoso, Peter Aluma). Excellent post feeder, developing a jump shot, good rebounder.
Tomasz Gielo - Best player in this conversation IMO with the exception of Anthony Smith. Total skill set on offense and now that he is rebounding well and defending better, maybe the most complete player in the program. Playing the wing at 6-9. Plays the 4 as well.

Yes I think this front line group top to bottom is better than the front line of 2004.

Leo Lightbourne was a very good player. However he was injured most of that championship year and ended up being a key reserve. Once Gabe Martin graduated, he stepped into that role as an undersized stretch 4. He played for one of my former teammates Danny Pratt down in the Bahamas. Add a healthy Leo to that mix in 2004 and that group might get the edge over this current group.

Just my opinion though. Feel free to disagree of course. :)

I think that was the time they went with the new software to make posting stats online possible (or at least easier)...that was also the first year for some guy at AD that you dont like I think)

we are very deep with bigs. Much deeper than that '04 team. Its not the bigs that have been the problem and I think we all know that. '04 had much better perimeter play than this team has and also had a guy they could go to and get points very consistently. We do not have a player that scores points consistently for us.

I loved that '04 team. That whole season was a ton of fun, but don't let blind allegiances skew facts.

I loved Jerry Edwards. The dude has his quirks but that's what I liked about him. Remember I'm a Cubs fan from pre Andre Dawson days so....

I don't think it has to be either or. I think Alan does a smashing job as well. I really think the addition of Naz makes the broadcast awesome because he does a phenomenal job. It just brings a different atmosphere to the broadcasts, that's all. I wouldn't rate one above the other

Seems the only "skew facts" with a free pass are those attempts to rationalize the expense of the current performance. How could the past have ever generated the ability to meet such lofty standards!

I don't try to rationalize anything. So I am going to assume you are directing that towards somebody else.
