If roundball is your blood, this is the place to discuss the Flames as they move into the Ritchie McKay era for the 2nd time.

This second half run has been fun. Davon finally finding his stroke is the best aspect of the whole day.

At least I feel a bit better heading into the conference schedule which is the only part of our she duke that has meaning anyways.

It's done. Princeton walks away with the win 80-74.

Sanders 25 pts; Gielo 20 pts; and Marshall with 13 pts.

Pretty close second half back and forth battle.

I agree with Sly on the positive that there came some great production without Antwan altogether; & Smith who played some but had very limited play.

Nice to see the Princeton storm not produce as big as forecast or expected by some.

I'm so upset right now I can't even think straight. I'll post more when I settle down. But today was just totally unacceptable. You can't have a team like this come in hype the game to the locals and then lay an egg by NOT HAVING ANY NACHOs! Ridiculous.

I wonder if we could have beaten them with Burrus?

SCAR of course was there, and I looked but saw no sign of Purple (he was probably in the non-nacho line); I did think I saw RD there--the place was packed with celebrities!

Princeton fans were there on both sides of the Vines, decked out in their orange and black: don't know if they traveled down or if we have that many Princeton alums in the area.

I was there. Sitting at mid court by the Under Construction Luxury boxes

I doubt we would have won with Burrus.

We played well throughout until @ 2 minutes or so to play when we couldn't secure a missed free throw; the first was an offensive rebound leading to 2 more FTs and the second missed FT JVP rebounded but was called for a hip check leading to another possession. I think they scored 4 or 6 points without us ever having possession.

I've seen enough of Retic to know that I like him. Our best line up is Gielo, Marshall, Retic, Coronado (Burress when he returns) and any other big. Their communication, passing, activity and defense was a stark contrast to any other line up we had in there. Gielo played fearless today for the first time. Didn't seem to be looking over his shoulder on every possession. Princeton had no answer for him on the wing. Then down the stretch he rarely if ever touched the ball. Other guards were looking to do things themselves instead of the team. This is why having Burrus in the line up wouldn't have made that big a difference. Someone would have had to get him the ball. Princeton did a great job exploiting their guards in the post and they past the ball like a bunch of mad scientists in a hoops lab!

Can't remember how many times I have heard the same story......... LU plays hard, has a lead towards the end of the game, lays monster egg.

Lang could just write this generic story and fill in the date and the sport and save himself a lot of time.

And how proud we are for almost winning/barely losing.

I had posted some periodic updates. As I appreciate those occaisons when other FF members post periodic game updates in turn as well if they can or do; as sometimes I cannot personally watch or listen to every game but will chim in throughout to see what is going on in the game. On this occaison, I had some time. I was somewhat surprised in this game that it was not a massive blow out as thought. Princeton has had a decent season start. The score throughout the game was close. But watching the last ten minutes of the game, I did not ever really think at all that we would actually pull it out in the end. There were just a couple of game dynamics in play midway through the second half that brought me to think that we would ultimately lose, though obviously I would have wanted the Flames to win or prove me wrong. I thought Gielo played well. I like Gielo, and have always wanted to see him really break out. I hope that he can in fact turn out a huge season post Christmas break, or have a really great senior season next year. Heres to hoping that Sanders and Marshall can build off this game into conference play as well.

Are you saying that a lot of our problems are from Sanders and a me first mentality? I'm not suggesting anything as I haven't seen a game this season, but that wouldn't be the first time I'd heard that.

I think thats true a lot of games but jc played pretty well today. He and gielo carried the offense. No matter how frustrating he is to watch sometimes he is the only real threat that we have that can penetrate and finish. I still cant believe layer continues to get crucial minutes. He is nothing more than a spot up shooter

I'm saying there is a lack of trust and chemistry on this team. The ball moves much better and players are more 'engaged' when he is not the primary ball handler or on the floor. There is a difference between passing the ball when you have no where else to go and passing the ball to set up your team mates. He does the first a lot more than he does the second. Sure it shows up as an assist but stats can be deceiving. As the PG / primary ball handler it is on your shoulders to understand where the best match ups are and who is hot, especially as a senior. This afternoon Princeton did a great job backing him into the post and just abusing him. (To be fair, when Coronados man was on the wing they took him straight to the hole) But then it seemed Sanders wanted to get in a Mano y Mano contest and that's when the game changed.
But, my wife who is wise in these things and I started talking. Maybe next year LU will be better because he is gone. Maybe we haven't really seen what Layer can do with his system because the primary ball handler doesn't fit/buy in to Layers system. If the recruiting class is as good as advertised she may be on to something
