Is this what it's come to? Placing all of our hopes on the Tournament and just ignoring the regular season? That's a sad state of affairs. How many years have we been saying 'we are almost there...' Or ' we are an Antwan Burrus away from being good..." Now it's 'Wait till the Tourney, THEN we will be good'. It would be nice to go into the Tournament as one of the favorites as opposed to making it our Hail Jerry opportunity.
As for Geilo, his stats are not matching up to his skill set. IMO, it's because he isn't playing with confidence which is because he isn't being put in a position to succeed. This team is built around Marshall and Sanders for better or worse. I think the results speak for themselves.
Apparently, BJ's earlier claim that Layer was extended has now been called into doubt by conflicting reports. It would be nice to have this nailed down one way or the other.
SMSU played the style of game we want to play......and still beat us

Purple, I know you like to compare what Gielo does for the Polish Jr national team with what he does at LU and imply he is less productive here because Layer isn´t letting him run the team, which is apparenly what you think should happen. Tomasz plays a similar role for Poland to what he does here. He is a stretch 4, sometimes a 3. His numbers are better for them both shooting and rebounding, but assists are few and far between and he is seldom a facilitator. His skill set includes a shooting touch with 3 point range and decent ball handling ability for a kid his size. I do not believe he has ever exhibited on the court the ability to run a team as you suggest.

Actually, the poster who reported Layer´s extension was bballfan84, and he has a very good track record where such things are concerned.

I would most certainly play him at a stretch 4 or a high 5 even. I don't want him to be a facilitator, I want him to be a scorer because he is a nightmare match up at the 3-5 spots. I don't want him to rum the team, he's not a Point Forward by any stretch of the imagination. However, our offense isn't geared towards making him a focal point. It is designed for Sanders and Marshall to, neither of whom have proven that is something they are capable of doing. Gielo has proven that he can be.

Honestly, can we say with complete certainty that Layer is the problem? This has been going on throughout the tenure of multiple coaches, lofty expectations, and zero performance.

In the history of LU hoops (D 1 era) how many times has the program overachieved during the season. Maybe 1 year. Underachieve and win the tournament should be the motto. #trolling or #truth
huh?? You're reading comprehension is terrible

The only time this program ever had lofty expectations was when we brought in the "magnificent seven" other than that we have met expectations because nobody ever really expects the men's basketball team to be good, haha.

**SEE NOTE BELOW**

Obviously we have had a terrible track record at hiring head coaches for our men's team. That is the problem

I wish Dale Layer would have sustained success because I like him a lot. He just isn't head coaching material.
