Yesterday’s blue-white game gave us a good idea of where the Flames are going into the 2013-2014 season. Unlike many preseason scrimmages that are filled with havoc and mayhem, the Flames looked like a veteran team.

Blue Team: Davon Marshall, Chad Donley, Tomasz Gielo, Andrew Smith, Joel Vander Pol, Devon Pekas, and Ryan Kemrite

White Team: Casey Roberts, Joe Retic, Ethan Layer, Wesley Alcegaire, Antwan Burrus, J.R. Coronado, and Sommy Ogukwe.

John Caleb Sanders did not play.

Flames Nation wrote:Big South Basketball Preview: North Division

1. High Point
Last Season: 17-14 (12-4), 1st in North, 1st round CIT
Top Returners: John Brown (6-8 F, 16.4 points, 6.1 rebounds), Allan Chaney (6-9 F, 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds), Adam Weary (6-3 G, 10.2 points)
Outlook: With two of the best big men in the conference now having a year of experience under their belt, and the Panthers losing virtually none of their top players, there is no reason to think they won’t at least match their 12-4 Big South record. After getting their first taste of postseason play last year, the Panthers will be hungry for more.

Speaking of which, here's the final one, on the centers. We'll get after Big South team breakdowns next week after media day at the beach next Thursday:

There are too many multisyllabic words and too few pictures for him. Nor does it 'pop up' like his favorite story book!

Flames Nation wrote:Flames Basketball 2013-14 Non-conference Schedule Preview

It’s time to get geared up for basketball season! The Flames have put together an interesting non-conference schedule in preparation for their run at the top of the Big South. Highlights include a road game against the University of Virginia, and Princeton coming into the Vines Center.

Liberty tips off the season with a home exhibition against local opponent Randolph College. They then head to Williamsburg, VA to take on William and Mary before heading back to Lynchburg for contests against Eastern Carolina and UNC Wilmington.

Great write up as always Chris. I spoke to coach Jones on Media Day last week and I asked him about whether we would ever see a VCU style of play with 40 minutes of pressure coming to Radford. He basically said that it was Shaka's system and it works for him but it is a risky prospect to attempt. In short, I don't see it happening down there.

I do see that they will be tough to beat and if they get some bounces to go their way early and get some confidence that they could end up being a tough out in the conference tournament. Truthfully they were a tough out last year for Winthrop. Radford was up 5 in OT but couldn't finish.

He also told me that he would like to finally get a win over Liberty as he hasn't beaten Liberty since he took the job.

One week from now it all begins! I am really excited to see how this team comes together. All Big South home games will be streamed on BSN for Free this season. LFSN is NOT covering the Randolph season opener but Nick Pierce and I will be calling the game on the Webstream for the conference.
