When it comes to intentionally fouling players from the back when the offensive player has a clear shot at scoring, more needs to be done about protecting the players. Haventyou seen the movie Hoosiers? I`m bitter about the loss as you can tell.
I can't help it if UM doesn't make FT's or Lay ups down the stretch. At game speed I would have gone with the flagrant foul ( I don't know what number since they don't have intentional fouls) but on the replay it looked like they got it right

At least with CSU there was a chance a BSC team wouldn't play. I've never agreed with that, and especially in this case. LU and the BSC will get a lot of press with us in the play in game. One, just because of who we are and two, because of our record.
IMO, the worst thing for us is to have this long lay off. But it's awesome to still be playing!
KK and cheapening our Conference in the same post. Ironic much?

I am a firm believer that a conference champion should not have to go to Dayton. conference champions earned that bid by winning their tournament. the at large teams had to rely on the selection committee to award them a bid, they lost their tournament, thus needed a gift from committee.

For some reason I love seeing teams with losing records reach the tournament, regardless of who they are. Unlike football where a team can lose 1 or 2 games, they're toast , in basketball, every team has shot at national championship, regardless of record.

I think the play in game was designed for teams like us this year. Horrible regular season but come alive in the tournament. Perfect

Also, now you have 'The First Four" so those "bubble teams" that ballcoach mentions will be earning their way in.

Yahoo sports in a long article speculates whether we are the worst tourney team ever. Some pretty good stuff.
Yahoo wrote:Ticket Punched: Liberty becomes second 20-loss team ever to secure NCAA bid

Very few college basketball coaches get even one chance to experience the euphoria of making an out-of-nowhere run to a conference tournament title and an automatic NCAA tournament bid.

Dale Layer has now accomplished it twice.

Ten years after Layer's sixth-seeded Colorado State team toppled Wyoming, BYU and UNLV in the Mountain West tournament to earn an improbable NCAA bid, the veteran coach piloted Liberty to a similar feat in the Big South. The Flames became the second 20-loss team to make the NCAA tournament, joining Coppin State's 2008 team on that list by upsetting Charleston Southern 87-76 in Sunday's Big South title game.

I think the NCAA committee will try to plan for a Liberty-Duke match-up. A couple things must happen first. One, Duke must win the ACC tourney in order to get a number 1 seed in the East. Two, Liberty must win its 'win-in' game. Both things are not a given, however that doesn't mean the NCAA won't try to lay the groundwork for a 'made-for-tv-dream-match-up'. The tweet from FlamesNation and Seth's response may trigger such a thing.

May as well be Duke as anyone. Heck Duke lost to UVA who lost to ODU,who I hear is worst team in D1.

Despite the headline, I think it was a fair story.

Ironically the fact that we were so bad for much of the season is the reason we are getting more press than either of our previous trips to the dance. Now we will have a winnable first four game and conceivably could be a featured story line as the tourney begins. God works in mysterious ways.

We got a ton of press for the 94 tourney. ESPN basically clung to Matt Hildebrand's hip for the entire week leading up to the UNC matchup and then credited us with wearing UNC down enough that they lost their 2nd round game to BC.

I remember. I was there. My favorite line was Jeff Meyer's quote while holding a coke from McDonalds that Dean Smith gets his players from McDonalds, Jeff just gets a coke from there.

Joe Lunardi at ESPN Bracketology has us playing LIU Brooklyn (from the NEC) in Dayton with the winner playing Indiana while Duke gets Northeastern

Just not sure how they can pass up that story of Curry playing Liberty. That would make a 1/16 game that much more interesting. My guess is that they don't think we win the play-in game:(

Maybe...but for what its worth its not ESPN that sets the bracket when all is said and done, its the NCAA Selection Committee

You don't think the committee is looking for good match ups with story lines? Better the tournament, the more money ESPN pays when contract is up;)

ESPN is not even involved in the Tourney and hasn't been for many years. It is CBS and now Turner Broadcasting has been added back in 2011.

I agree with Proto. Sub plots are a factor in the matchups. I would be surprised if Liberty were not on a collision course with Duke.

Im sure ESPN will want to pony up and have the rights to both the men's and women's tournament if possible but the selection committee I think is holed up in a hotel all this week with limited access to outside resources so as not to unnecessarily influence their decision about who gains an at large berth

BJ - You have been doing so good. I'm not saying CBS/ESPN/TWC will be lobbying for a Curry/LU reunion, I'm saying that the committee themselves try and put together the most entertaining bracket as possible... They will know the connection here and will talk a lot about Liberty early, because we are a guarantee play in game team.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. a Liberty/Duke matchup would be a great storyline with the Seth Curry history for the two and probably (if Liberty did their part next Tuesday) make it a feature game whenever Duke plays (Thursday or Friday)
