Sanders tried to do too much in the final 1:30. As Haize said, dribble, penetrate, stop, pivot 5 times, etc. He should have given the ball up more often, and sooner.

You realize of course everything you are saying about JC could have been said about Jesse and then some. Somehow it worked for him. Mainly because he was bigger, stronger and well...... just plain better.

Not necessarily. Since you already pointed out he was bigger, faster stronger and better it means he was able to create space and opportunities. It means his decisions were faster and sharper. It means that he made those he played with better because he was better. You can't really compare the two.

By no means was I suggesting that JC should be playing this way. Quite the contrary. I was making an observation of the things Jesse did on the court and the similarities with what JC has been TRYING to do. The results are clearly not the same. Jesse broke a lot of the rules about how you should play PG, but he was extremely effective anyway because he was smart, tough, and a lot more athletic than people gave him credit for.

Yes, there are exceptions, but most of the time we find a way to lose instead of a way to win. It is almost a given, if the game is close at the end, we are going to lose. Norfolk State and Lehigh come to mind in football this year. First and goal inside the five, we convert, we win, then comes the choke-burger. I could come up with a hundred more, and maybe it belongs in another thread, or maybe I am old and senile and don't have a clue what I am talking about.
This. This is how I've felt in the four years I've truly followed athletics here.

It comes down to talent, coaching, and execution. You need all three to pull out the close ones and we weren't good enough on one, two, or all of the three in the losses you remember.

After watching a couple games here is my take...I think we have the potential to be a good team however I am not sure we will reach it. The team is ran through JC and he is most likely a 3rd or 4th option in my mind. Why in the world is the offense not running through Gielo. He is a 6'9 lefty who can shoot and drive..thats a no brainer in my mind. I know he is young but if he had a whole year of being a go to scorer this year, can you imgaine him next year. JC is a lost case to me, he cant beat people off the dribble and he cant create his own shot. Why is he dribbling the ball 50 times each possession? I am not sure what Layer is thinking when he is developing his team and looking to the future bc he has a huge piece in Gielo and not using it. I think going forward we need to up the pace and run the floor a lot more cause our half court game is terrible. Our strength is the 3ball and we have no one to create and dish to the 3ball shooters..so what should we do..increase the pace and all the shooters cut to the 3 line. If we do get into a half court offense why not try the flex??

this may also be part of the problem:

LUconn helpfully pointed out that old people should not attempt to read twitter.

The Flex? The 80's called and Gary Williams is on hold. Also, frustrated Middle School coaches have emailed and want to know if you got that for a good price

Next up for bid is the Wheel. And on deck, the Picket fence.

Said no coach since Reagan.....
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad quick hitter type set but as a main offense not so much

Yes they run a modified version of it. However, if you watch their games they are getting away from it more as the game goes on. In fact, it appears it is just a set they run from time to time.

Maryland ran it a bunch a couple years back and even though Maryland has struggled as of late it can work at a high level. It beats watching JC fail at taking his man to the basket and then throwing it back out when he is stuck.

Thus the Gary Williams reference.
But you are right. It couldn't hurt. Or.... JC could do his penetration to the FT line and then do the Pivot Around The World which would give more space for everyone else in the offense.

If that's what York said, then it's a terrible use of Twitter. The only people that would've seen that are people that follow both him and Marshall. Most people don't follow athletes because most athletes don't tweet in English.

Marshall and Sanders need to shoot more 3s, or at least shoot outside more. this would open things up inside more. and it seems we don't play our best lineup on floor very many minutes during course of a game. in other words, too much substitutions, when they are not needed.

Not sure which Davon Marshall you have been watching since 70 percent of his shots have been from 3. I agree that Sanders has been forcing it to the basket too much. He needs to reestablish himselfe as a 3 point threat, and then he will get better opportunities to selectively take it to the hole.
