team is going to be worse next year. scary. no speaks or burris, there goes the mid range game and low post scoring.

last 5 min was dreadful. To go along with their lack of athleticism is the lack of basketball iq. Does Layer or anyone on the team realize they can throw the ball backcourt during out of bounds plays? How many turnovers are they going to throw trying to throw half court? ridiculous.

I think Howard and Presby are the two d1 games they can win. Can't even beat the bottom feeders of the Southern, CAA, and MEAC. SMH. Shame to see where the program is heading.

It was definitely a fun game to watch. Liberty played them tight, and I really thought we had it wrapped up at the end. There were some things I didn't understand like taking Roberts out when he had 5 of your first 8 points, having Sommie instead of some of your better bigs in at the end, etc., the typical head scratchers that normally come with this season.

The thing that I really didn't get is why we didn't have more rebounding in the game at the end with a 4 point lead. Although the Morgan St game was a bit different, we had Sanders and Donley responsible boxing out the 7 footer at the end of the game on Thursday. Then, tonight we were up 4 and coach went small. This allowed them to get 3-4 offensive rebounds in one possession that eventually led to a 3-point play to put GA State back in it. We should have had all 5 guys crashing the boards regardless of who was in the game. 0-8 is not a good way to start, hopefully things will start to turn around soon...

I watched the game with my 4-year-old son on MASN. He wanted to know why Indiana basketball games had lots of people in the stands but the Liberty game didn't. I tried to explain to him that Liberty wasn't as good as Indiana at basketball this year, so not as many people were at the game. He then wanted to know why I cared about the Liberty game and so I had to explain to him that Daddy used to go to Liberty and I was even the track team there a long time ago. He then wanted to know if the track team was as bad as the basketball team.

At least I had a positive story to tell him about Liberty athletics before he went to bed.

A lot of Layer's coaching decisions leave me scratching my head.

I can only say I've given him the benefit of the doubt for 4 years. It's wearing thin now.

to me, this is when the game was lost:

00:44 MISSED 3 PTR by Atkins, Manny
00:44 REBOUND (OFF) by Hunter, R.J.
00:37 MISSED 3 PTR by White, Devonta
00:37 REBOUND (OFF) by Richardson, Rashaad
00:31 MISSED 3 PTR by Richardson, Rashaad
00:31 REBOUND (OFF) by Vincent, James
00:26 63-60 H 3 GOOD! TIP-IN by Vincent, James [PNT]
FOUL by ROBERTS, Casey (P1T5) 00:26 63-61 H 2 GOOD! FT SHOT by Vincent, James

We were in really good position in the final minute and they were panicking with unneeded 3s. And then we let them off the hook by allowing 3 consecutive offensive rebounds. And then when they were finally smart enough to grab an easy 2 instead Roberts fouls. Just a horrible horrible defensive possession.

Coach wanted his best foul shooters at the end knowing they had to foul to get back in the game. What got them back in the game was the phantom foul on Roberts on the dunk and a guy who's been shooting 23% 3 pointers nailing a 30 footer. The team IS getting better. We lost to this same team by 22 points last year. They WILL turn the corner and be very competitive in the BSC once Burris gets back and coach has his substitution rotation in place.

Some quick observations;

1- why did Ga State play zone, it helps LU doesn't hurt them when they are zoned. LU with 12 3's bad strategy by Ga State
2- Liberty played small the whole game and it helped them score..
3- the last minute Ga St shot so many bricks they were long rebounds, the offense has advantage in rebounding those..
4-nothing really coaching wise Layer could have done different except really... Time and score sometimes takes strategy out of it...

LU players shouldn't foul or even touch them when up more than 3 points,
And bottom line is the guy hit a 23 foot 3 with a hand in his face... Tough shot offense wins...
They'll be fine...kids battled hard!

I'm not denying we will get better for the Big South, I didn't mean for my post to imply that if it did. I was happier today than I have been with any other game this season, which is a positive to take away. I understand wanting to have the best foul shooters in the game, I just found it hard to watch them get offensive boards in droves at the end when we were up by 4 points. Anyways, hopefully we can take into the next game what was done tonight.
