I still don't think that LU addressed their issues over the summer when EG left... With out JB they took a hit but Burrus and Joel are not a bad front line in the BSC... Stats prove Burrus is good.

I don't buy the Sommy argument, who would he play in front of? He's not a skilled scorer...

They still lack outside shooting... TS and DM rarely shoot 3's. That's what they have missed the most.

Jesse has willed the team to the wins here lately.

I think they thought they addressed the issues with Gordon by signing Speaks, but Speaks has proven to be a very one-dimensional player ... a guy who can hit a mid-range jumper and plays decent on-ball defense but little else. Gordon could drive, shoot the 3 and score off the bounce. Speaks does little of that. I thought that was going to be an issue when I watched the team in October, and that's proven to be the case. JC Sanders can drive it a bit, Jesse can drive it a bit, Minaya can drive it some when he gets the right matchup but he's prone to picking up charges. That leads to a lot of pass-it-around-the-perimeter offense. It's worked at times, but I definitely think this team has lacked a consistent slashing scorer all year.

Say what you want but RD was top 4(actually top 3) in league every year except 1 == very good IMO
RD won a BSC title... If DL wins 1 how long would his extension be?? (Great question!)
Also when the Doctor died LU got out of debt, Jr turned Online into millions so let's be real here the buildings, facilities, scoreboards, etc ARE NOT coming from AL Williams or some super fundraising AD.

Also LU playing better as of late, and JB and Sommy are still injured,,,, so why couldn't they play that good in Nov, Dec, Jan, Same players????

Are you related to T/C? Maybe some will start to get past the buildings and toys to the reality that mediocrity rains in our performance.

students showed up back in the RD days only towards the end of good seasons and community support has been terrible since the day I stepped on liberty in 2003. To say when RD was coach community support was stronger is so delusional its not even funny.

I am all for critiquing ones performance but at least be accurate in your critique.

ONE MORE TIME!!! Move on people!!! RD did coach here, but he is not the coach any more. HE IS NOT COMING BACK. He is Irrelevant. We all seem to have different views on him and the entire situation. This is like the dog returning to his vomit at this point. It's not like we are arguing about a long time fixture or hall of fame coach.

Please move on, and support Coach Layer and the players who represent our great school now.

Absolutely irrelivant in a thread about current RPI. I wish we could confine historical stuff to historical threads and judge this team in current threads. And anyone who thinks the community was big into LU basketball in the Meyer Era is a lost soul. The community has ONLY ever shown up for BIG opponets (Tech, Etc) or Championship games. The Community at alrge has zero ties to Meyer, RD, RMK, Layer, or LU in general. They want to see good teams play good competative games. That will come in time.

It wasn't directed towards you. It was directed towards ToC. He always comes on here and talks as if the community embraced RD and LU basketball when he was coach. It simply isn't accurate. I didn't miss a home game the 5 1/2 years I lived in Lynchburg and saw first hand the lack of community support.

I have heard how things were when Meyer was around and I can not even begin to speak of that. All I can speak of is from 2003 on.

You say ToC makes good points, but in reality the premise of his beef is faulty. You have to see that...

Next look in the book, first game of 96-97 season against FIU there was around 5000 people in attendance maybe...

mid 90's were highest attended games, school was excited about hoops late in year, like most small D-1 programs.

My only response is that I've been to most home LU bball games since 1987, so I think I do know something. Community based support has ALWAYS been sporadic and rather Bandwagonish in nature.

Now I'm done with this is this thread, which is supposed to be about this team. So I say #beatCoastal, #beatCampbell and the RPI will be just fine!

I guess I just need to face the facts that there are ALOT of folks on this board who would do the following if our MBB team had 10 straight losing seasons:


1) Talk about how hard we played and how much we improved.

2) Talk about the "what if''s " so and so didnt get hurt....etc..etc...

3) Talk about how good our recruiting class is and how much better we'll be next year.

4) Talk about how we need to be more patient and we'll get there.

5) Dismiss the TONS of $$$ that are thrown at LU major athletics.

6) Talk about how good the conferences of our opponents are: CAA, MEAC, whatever....

7) Talk about how it's the students fault the games are so poorly attended.

Never call for any significant changes, but be completely content with mediocity or even less.

9) STICK THEIR HEAD IN THE SAND AND NEVER PULL IT OUT !!

The point is that many "fans" are content with "whatever" and don't have the nads to talk about the issues are teams face and why they face them......They just sit back and say...."we tried are best" like a bunch of pansies.......That what Losers always say.....Winners date the prom queen ! Ok...Let me break it down for you:

1) Alot of our "fans" talk about our teams like they are rec. league soccer programs...where we arent really suppose to keep score...cuz we dont want little Johnny to feel bad about losing ! Therefore, we talk about are teams "trying their best " or "improving" in some generic sense...but the fact is.....the records and stats dont reflect it......We're living in a dream world. This is NCAA Division 1 athletics ! ..."grow some..."

2) If are attendance SUCKS.....it's probably because are product SUCKS !.......If are product SUCKS....it's probably beacause are player's SUCK.....If are players SUCK.....It's probably because are recruting SUCKS.....If are recruiting SUCKS.....it's probably due to some coaches SUCK......

SOMETHING REALLY SUCKS.....It's not all just fine and dandy !!! There is a problem somewhere....let's FIX IT !!!
