Oh right, that's unless your RD who doesn't need to be accountable for three straight first round loses with all the amazing talent he recruited. Everyone else is held to the truth and must suffer consequences but not the beloved RD. Now I get it.
Of course he should be accountable for resources given and performance. But to not give him an extension is pitiful. Otherwise than if DL doesn't win a BSC Tournament game this year he is 0-3 and should be fired?
It's one thing to lose in the first round 3 consecutive years to start your tenure (i.e. Layer). It's another thing to lose in the first round 3 consecutive years after you've already been to the pinnacle (i.e. RD).

Coaches go through bumps in the road. RD had loaded us back up and was in position (especially with Marshall jetting Winthrop) to be a perennial top program. He had the enthusiasm in back in the program. Hopefully we can get it back to the level he had us.

3 year long bumps? Man. And the enthusiasm in the program was highest when McKay was here.

Can we all agree that besides 1 season there has been a lot of underachieveing regardless of coach last 10 times in tournament? True or false?

I don't agree with that. We're not going to win the tourney every year. Out of the last 10 years, I'd say there's been 4 underachieving tournaments - 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011.

2003 - can't label a semi-finals appearance in a Coach's first year as underachieving
2004 - of course not
2006 - the whole season was a waste, but can't label the tourney as underachieving
2008 - see 2003
2010 - I can live with that result. We competed well on road against Winthrop in a coach's first year

So basically Manson you don't have lofty expectations for your program.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Meyer era --- '94 championship -- '95 Semi-finals -- '96 Runner up -- '97 Runner up --

Fired for that...

Of course I have lofty expectations, but I also try to be realistic. In 10 years, we’ve won it once, made the semi’s 3 times, and lost in the first round 5 times. If you take out my 4 “underachieving” years then that’s losing in the first round only 1 time. I’ll take that every 10 years and not even play a game.

My sources down here tell me Randy Peele is on the hot seat in his 5th season as Head Coach at Winthrop...

He has 2 championships and 2 first round losses...not counting this year yet...

If fired that's high expectations.

BYU, Notre Dame, Liberty??

:!:

But what were the crowds like?
Did he have community support?
Did his players graduate within 4 or 5 years?
Did he stay within budget?
Did he have any players go to the NBA?
Where is he now?

And look at the 5 years prior to his arrival:

3 championships, 1 NCAA tourney win and 1 first round loss

Winthrop has regressed under his watch.

True...a lot of underachieving regardless of the coach the last 10 years. Also, it's a good thing Birmingham Southern was a transitional D2 program in 04 or we may have lost that year as well...and I have been to home games every year since '97... how many people were in the vines when the students were away...it always is/has been empty. Honestly...we've never been a men's hoops power...not even at the top of the Big South...regardless who the coach was/is...so my solution is put ice in the vines and give up on hoops...we could have a great ncaa d1 hockey team with this money :p That team overachieves all the time.

Just my opinion...but I like hockey way more than hoops. But I will always continue to root for the men's hoops teams as long as we have them.

The present, nor the future doesn't look good for LU basketball. We need to bring in a higher caliber of recruits, and more height. We have not had a tall player any good in years. Plus we need better outside shooting.

Great. Another recruiting genius. I don't think any coaching staff in America says: We need less talent! :brownbag Height can be very over rated in basketball. I personally like, at this level a bunch of 6'5 to 6'8" players that are interchangeable. I know another coach who feels the same way but at his level, he wants 6'6" to 6'9"!

TBGBG is in the "I hate Jeff Barber" camp much like checkers and all the varying screen names of that bent...I think Jeff Barber ran over one of his pets on the way to the airport or something and that was the same day he and checkers saw that he didnt renew RD's contract and so he's still bitter and hateful towards him as a result

I believe a double negative makes a positive so apparently they are optimistic about either or both the present and the future.

What we need is some who can identify the Gabe Martin's, Ryan Mantlo's, Harry Williams, Bj Jenkins, Leo Lightbourne's, Dwight Brewington's, Larry Blair's, Alex McLean's and Anthony Smith's get them here based on Dr. Falwell's vision and work to impact their life with Spiritual/success life values in order to redirect their life journey. For any of us engaged in the culture of today's youth it is not any easy task, but one that is so needed.
Having someone ripping their jacket off and running around with their shirt tail off while dropping F bombs from the bench probably isn't the most effective way to impact anyone's life spiritually. At least I don't recall that method being mentioned in my evangelism class back in the day.

You do realize that Dale, Rocco, Toman, etc have all done the same thing, right?
