You have, and he does (often!). It's unfortunate, but I think that's "him".

Final score 73-66. We had our chances to come back and get this one. A couple of critical momentum-breaking turnovers and allowing 3 baskets off missed free throws killed us.

Guys, keep in mind we're playing a High Point team that tonight started the game down 24 points before scoring one point.

We can beat High Point. We've done it twice already.

Yeah we had our chances but everytime we could get below 5 we blew it. Very tough too watch.

No doubt that we CAN. We need to play better if we plan to, and especially if we want to win more than one game. Four games ago we talked about having a shot to win the BSC tournament; now we are "keeping in mind" that we are playing High Point in round 1. I'm with you on that, but there is no escaping that this was not a good showing.

Not "expecting" it; just saying we need to play better. I think HP will play better than they did tonight too (although I hope they don't).

Just a random stat Jesse is averaging about 6 assist a game. The past 4 games combined he has 8. Coincidence?

Not to mention that even when we lost to Iona (who shot the lights out especially from the perimeter), the Vines was still rocking for much of that game, even when we were down by 20. We have one of the craziest and loudest places to play right now and only one team in conference as managed to win there this year and that was CCU. I was disappointed in the result tonight as well but there is no need to wave the French white flag of surrender.

Let's just hope nobody looks at Evan wrong or does anything to him that could possibly hurt his feelings between now and next Saturday. If we make sure that doesn't happen then we could win the tournament.

BJ, I don't think anyone is surrendering, and I know that you and crew will be cheering like crazy on Tuesday (me too, although I personally would look really weird with a bandana on - old guy, glasses, bandana....no!).
Check with Cider Jim, but I think the White Flag of Surrender started in the ancient Chinese Empire. :D (just teasing you a bit to keep it cool ....)

And that was with all of us students gone.
We have played awful the past four games but we have shown we can win. I think we beat HP just bc we are at home then hopefully we can pull out a win at CCU against either UNCA or WU. And if CCU drops one (which looks very possible) we can get the championship game back in the Vines. Yes i know wishful thinking but you never know.

I agree, I was extremely embarrassed. Granted, Presby is a tough place to play. When you are used to playing at home with close to 8,000 people and you go to a gym with maybe 300 it is a little different but thats no excuse. We should be killing that team! There are kids on the Presby team that wouldn't even compete in the Liberty Intramural All Star game. They are balding and fat and slow but we cant play defense. Our team has focused on defense all year long and its like now they are so burnt out of playing it they just give up. I don't want to be a downer but I sure hope we can pull out a win tuesday.

And another thing, I really don't want to play UNCA right now!!!

Having been around this school for as long as I have, I feel like (and some of you may disagree) I have a somewhat unique perspective as students go because I have seen where we have come from as a program. To borrow a book title Ive seen "We're Just Not There Yet". We have taken strides that students who were around when I first arrived on the mountain (you know, back when we still did everything by candlelight and the women were only recently starting to wear pants). I look at it like investing in the stock market. You can buy a stock when its low, and there will be times you will be tempted to sell when things get tough, but you can't give up and sell. you may not see huge returns immediately, but you CANT GIVE UP. You keep holding onto those shares, because you know that it will pay off eventually.

Its the same with our athletic program. There are going to be tough times and there are going to be a lot of bumps in the road (whether its football, baseball or basketball, lacrosse, soccer, field hockey, whatever), but you know that one day, Liberty will be up at the highest level and will be doing things that none of us ever dreamed...competing on the biggest stages and taking opportunities to show what we can do...but in the meanwhile we are going to have days like this...so BYD and anyone else who wants to, if you want to give up and wave the white flag of surrender, you go right on ahead...Im gonna stick behind our athletic director and stick behind our athletic program...

I know this may seem like an odd time given where we've come from. There was something about knowing what we are now, a large modern university, and seeing us crumble in what looks like my high school gym to this tiny college, it really tore at what my perception and perhaps delusions are about our school. How are we this far ahead of these tiny little schools in everything it is supposed to take to win, and yet we consistently crumble in football, basketball, and other sports year after year? How are we not absolutely dominating every sport in the Big South with our facilities and budget?

I know I'm emotional and likely overreacting. I just hate losing to these peons when we are supposedly becoming big time, and it's starting to get embarrassing. Like an overhyped prospect thats all flash and no substance, I wonder what out great facilities and big budget really have gotten us?

Great post BJ.

Winthrop's success as I have come to know it has been since I was in school. I graduated in December of 2007. In 2008-2009 after our lousy year it would have been pretty easy to just go back to being a fair-weather WU basketball fan without much care if we did or didn't do well in 2009-2010 and so on. What I found was that the tough times we went through in that long 2008-09 season made last years BSC victory that much sweeter and I've been following and going to as many games as I can. I'm now just a WU fan win-lose-or draw. This year has had it's ups and downs but I've followed our guys as I'm sure a lot of ya'll do and no matter what----end of the day I'm an Eagle. Don't care how bad we are or how bad people project us to be I'm still gonna be right there in the middle of it looking at things with the glass half-full. It's great to be a fan!

So nice to see you back! We missed you when we were 10-1 in conference.
