I will say this... Just looking at the first post and what Jon said... I'm not saying we are ahead of ourselves, but lets not get to that point. The beauty of conference play in any conference is teams beating teams they shouldnt beat. With that being said we are playing well enough to win right now but with our level of turnovers as of late, that could be distructive. As we saw, we have the ability to come out and play awful against George Mason, on the same side of that coin, we have seen the ability a few times to get in there and fight to get a win regardless of how pretty it is.
All that being said, I think a few of these teams should be moved around (Just in my opinion)
Chuck: I would say we need to win both, but expecting to is tough. Chuck, UNCA, Coastal have been the worst places to play in the Big South the last 10 years due to awful officiating. So we went in and stole one from UNCA and thats huge, but going to Chuck and winning isnt as easy as going in there and playing like the better team. Just saying, because it needs to be expected and if we pull one out thats great!
Radford: Agree, and it makes me happy
GWU: Agree.
UNCA: They are just unpredictable... I think we can really put it on them at home, but they are just streaky. They have the talent is all im saying.
Must Split:
VMI: We play VMI at home on the 20th and @ their place on the 15th of Feb. I think a split here is fair because of how unpredictable they are. I Also think its very possible to steal both of them considering we really just have to beat them once because the other game is right around time for that military stuff that really hurts them ever year in the last half of conference play.
HPU: I really think we shouldnt have any issues beating High Point. Nick Barbour has gone from Pre-Season POY to- probably wont be first team Big South. They have an awful field goal % as of late and their shooting isnt what it used to be. Combine that with the way we have been playing and the fact that officiating there is usually fair, I think its possible to put them in the "Must Win" and give us a chance to drop one we shouldnt... because thats the beauty of conference play.
Could Afford to Lose:
Agreed, but ending at Winthrop and at PC could be bad for us. If you go on that road trip and get beat, you dont want to get demoralized right before conference play.
I really think we have got lucky up until this point and I'm not sure we are as good as we have shown and the facts are in the stats with our turnovers. We just have a Jesse Sanders who has decided that he is going to take over and make shots at the end of a close game to close teams out (something we couldnt do last year). Luckily for us, the big south is pretty much wide open... If the NCAA finds out that Ellis is paying half his team, there is no reason we should not be in the NCAA Tournament. Same can be said if we control turnovers and keep working in more post play, PLAYING OUR BEST PLAYERS, and keep improving defensively.
Forgive my spelling and grammar if it is wrong anywhere. Its Early
