Caldwell was one of the most "pro ready" players we've ever seen.

I played against him a ton of times, the dude could flat out ball. He is probably the most talented player to ever come out of Liberty

Yeah, look at my list of 10 and look who got us 9 of them

Yeh, he's hard to justify not putting him in for reasons other then personal...and if we're not putting people in b/c personal reasons we're left with one coach to insert from the 2000's

Not true in my opinion. He was a recruiting machine but I always thought he wasn't that great of a game time coach. Dugger absolutely pawned him in that last tournament. In fact, really the ONLY time in the last 10 years that I can recall us winning a game mostly if not all due to coaching, is when we beat Radford this year. Our roster had no business beating them at home. BeTray also had a decent plan vs Clemson last year playing stall ball every possession but it didn't pan out in the end.

That youtube of Gabe doesn't do him justice. It's pretty tame. I seem to remember there being a lot more rim shattering dunks in his highlight reels. Rocketfan found a really good one a couple years ago on some foreign site and I had the link saved but I think it was removed eventually.

Gabe was a beast, however I do recall blocking a couple of his dunks in practice his senior year

I know not everyone lives by this motto but I heavily weigh championships....same reason Marino will never be on my top list even though stats wise he should be

It's hard to win a championship/super bowl/world series or anything else by fluke

Yeah, was that before or after his crotch was in your face as he dunked over you?

So Trent Dilfer > Dan Marino. Got it.

Haha, hardly, never got dunked on by Gabe or anyone. Gabe tried a two handed monster dunk on me during a 2 on 1 break, luckily he missed it. Would have been a SWEET dunk...but I survived

Where did I say they automatically go on top? Marino's stats take him to a top 10 list IMO but he's not cracking the top 5...and Dilfer isnt cracking the top 10

Yep, everytime there was even a potential for a fast break everyone was on the edge of their seats. And at the end of games the whole team was focused on getting Gabe that highlight reel dunk.

I've been around all of them at least a little bit and I would pick Coach Layer over all of them. I didn't like the way Dunton coached and the way he blew up and all of that. He knew a ton about basketball but wasn't a very good communicator. I think Coach McKay was too lackadaisical and didn't have enough discipline. Layer has the best mix of discipline, fun, and coaching knowledge.

He also said Tyler Baker. As much as I like those two guys, they're not good enough players to be on this list.

I would have to agree with you, I had the pleasure of experiencing RD for a couple years and thought McKay was too relaxed from what I heard. I actually think two assistant coaches could have done a great job, Bob Davis and the great recruiter Stephon Leary

Edit, didn't realize that it was already discussed. Still confuses me though.

I want to make my team but there's so many good players I'm leaving off. Am I just supposed to pick the top 10 players or the players that would make the best team?

I went with a mix of biggest impact and best player. I had a hard time getting #9 and #10. I thought there were 8-sure fire ones but wasn't sure about the rest.

Ok, I'm picking the best by position 1-5. and then the bench is just the best of everybody else.

1-TeeJay Bannister
2-Larry Blair
3-Dwight Brewington
4-Gabe Martin
5-Alex McLean

Coach- Dale Layer

Bench:
Anthony Smith
Chris Caldwell
Vince Okotie
Leo Lightbourne
Brian Woodson

Yes. I did leave of Seth Curry. And I really think there was 0 chance he wasn't gonna be the GOAT after his 4 years, BUT he was only here 1 year and while it was awesome, I think Blair's freshman year was more impressive and he didn't have an offense that was 100% dedicated to getting him the ball every possession (that came later in his career  )

G - Teejay Bannister

G/F - Anthony Smith
F - Gabe Martin
F - Alex McLean

Bench:
G - Seth Curry
F - Dwight Brewington
G - Jesse Sanders
G - Chris Caldwell
G - BJ Jenkins

Coach: Randy Dunton

To everyone who put Layer... Where do you get that from? He only coached one year in this decade. Most of the players on all of our lists were Dunton's recruits. How is Randy Dunton not the best Coach of this decade? He brought us our only championship...
