Is the game on Saturday when Burrus starts over Carter? Carter is nice at 6'11 but has lacked the ability to do much. It looks like we are starting to be able to get out a run a little bit and he is lagging us a little bit. Burrus is much more athletic and can bang down in the post. I feel like if Burrus does start Saturday unfortunately Carter's minutes are going to start to dwindle him not being able to get dunks off of post feeds or much in the post is going to hurt him. Nothing against Carter just an outside pov.

You didn't listen to or watch the game last night. Burrus started. And Coach stated post game that Carter's still going to get "good minutes." He played 18 last night.

lusparky: So basically your new point is that if a team is not elite, the team should dress in miltary uniform and march onto the court in formation? That seems a bit rediculous. And your references to the big programs that do everything "right" is off too. For example, take Danny Green at UNC. Every home game in his final two years, he performed a rediculous dance. It certainly wasn't uniform. Why did he do it? It fired up the fans. If Carter wants to dress like Birdman because it fires him up and gives the crowd some energy, what's the problem? As an athlete, if headbands, high socks, etc. make you feel comfortable on the field or court, what's the problem? Should John Wall take off his arm sleeve so that he can better fit in, since he is at elite, and therefore disciplined, Kentucky? Come on.

Also, the opinion you have that if someone is "copying" someone, then they have to be as good as the person they are copying is offbased as well. Allen Iverson was the first player to wear cornrows in the NBA. Does that mean all players with cornrows should be as good as AI was? Should every player that waggles his bat at the plate like Gary Sheffield did be as good a hitter as Shef was?

If McMasters feels more comfortable with the high socks, spiked hair and head band, I would hate to see him play without it, then we would have a 6'11'' guy who played like 5'2'' girl. So I guess, if that's the only way he can play, I guess I wouldn't want to be his Delilah and rob him of his only source of talent.

Does John Wall's sleeve have a purpose? First of all, it covers tattoos, secondly it serves as an elbow pad. And if you've ever seen Kentucky play (which I haven't missed a game either live or on TV since I attended Kentucky in 2004), you know that John Wall sacrifices his body on just about every drive the basket. So, if McMasters has shin guards under his socks (which he very well might and then I'll feel like a jerk for saying anything) and need that gel in his hair along with the head band because he gets too much sweat (or gel) in his eyes that he can't perform, then I guess they have a function.

If you want to be a team and play like a team, then dress like a team. I'm tired of players today thinking that the world owes them something. If you want to be an individual while playing a game, you can always take up tennis or golf, but when you put that uniform on, you're not John Wall, Patrick Patterson or Eric Bledsoe, you're a Kentucky Wildcat. When you put on the red uniform, you're not Eric Gordon, Antwan Burrus or Carter McMasters, you're a Liberty Flame. It's a team sport for a reason. I might be wrong on this, and I'm sure that if I am someone will surely let me know, but why did Danny Rocco or any other coach take off the names on the back of the jersey?? Because it's a team sport, you're part of a team when you're on that field. Have you ever see the movie Miracle? That's how team sports should be played.

I'm well aware that that video has been used here before, but it truly is the only way to describe my feelings about that post.

C'mon pbow, you may disagree with what was said, but it was not an incoherent message. (ok, the "play like a girl" and "Samson & Delilah" reference in the first paragraph were weak)

I think pbow just wanted an excuse to put up that video

Well one way or another, I'm sure opposing fans see McMasters come out of the locker room dressed like a diva and then wonder why he gets 12 minutes a game and doesn't really do much while he's out there. Burrus is now getting a lot of playing time, proving himself on the court and hopefully a starting job for the rest of the season. We'll see what he does tonight, but I see him getting better as the season continues.

See, here's how you show that you don't know what you're talking about: Carter only does the birdman stuff at home.

Excellent observation, Super. I noticed that CM changed his hairstyle for the VMI game (away).

It's the same thing Ben Wallace did when he was with the Pistons. He'd wear his hair picked out and with the massive afro at home, but he went cornrowed on the road.

Ahhh, nice observation - I hadn't noticed that. I knew there were some games he didn't do it, but hadn't realized it was a home/away thing. I like that

Yeah, I've noticed the hair at the last three games, but everything else has been there. I was impressed with him today though, 7 boards and I think two blocks. I sure would like to see some more meat on him though.

I couldn't find a thread on Patrick Konan and didn't want to start a new one, but after a great start to his young career, his productivity has dropped way off in recent games. To this point, Burrus and McMasters have been pretty much splitting the minutes in the post. I'm wondering if Layer will start playing them together more.

Konan missed so many layups in the VMI game that it was absolutely painful. Hopefully, he'll break out of that slump and get more playing time. McMasters does seem to make the most of his limited minutes coming off the bench.

Patrick reminds me a lot of Rell Porter, just more athletic. He'll play defense. He'll rebound. But right now he's a little limited offensively. That'll come along though. He's only a freshman. His offensive game will evolve and improve as he gets older.

Antwan reminds me a ton of Joseph Harris. Nothing flashy but just hard work, rebounding, and scoring the buckets he's supposed to score. He's got a little Arizona Reid in him too, although AZ had a better outside game.

Not trying to be negative nancy, but we said the same thing about Rell.

Rell also had blown out his knees and lost a lot of his athleticism. If you remember, before he hurt his knee in high school, Rell was getting major offers. Konan still has the athleticism.

Let's not forget that Rell did a lot more than the stat sheet. He was never going to be a major scorer. However, he played tough defense and was named captain by the end of his time here.

...plus, he did it for the kids.

Rell was actually a captain from his Sophomore year on. He was definately a guy who set an example for hustle despite his limitations.

HAHA wow. I still remember the epic rant at VMI. "he's renowned in rawanda, he's Cherished in china, he's magnified in mongolia... and on and on it went because Rell does it for the kids.
