No, its not. Cinci Christian beat them badly the other night. They also came in banged up. Even in perfect conditions, its beyond excusable to schedule this type of game. A D-II NCCAA team! A non-scholaship Christian college!!

Ridiculous.

This is a young team that just followed a brutal 1-5 stretch (two of those games being 30+ point blowout losses) and has won 5 of its last 6 games. Im sprry that we couldnt get Florida or UK on the line and schedule them instead since apparently that is what you'd prefer JK.

Interesting stat: 6 players scored in double figures (and 3 of those were players coming off the bench--Burrus, Anderson, & Perez).

Don't you be sorry, BJ - you didn't have anything to do with it. I NEVER SAID I wanted another ranked opponent!

(There was a Liberty grad on the floor for UK's game today, btw.)

I would've preferred at least an NCAA D-II team. But this - there's just so little benefit. Its a waste of the guarantee money.

He finally made that little hook shot today. It's the first time I've seen him make it all year. If he can learn it and knock it down consistently, that'll be a big weapon.

Yes, did a stellar job - as usual. And boy, John Wall is the real deal, as well as Patterson and Cousins. They looked GOOD.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

A legend for barely getting a triple double in a 60 point victory? That's not legend status. Take a dude from the stands and put him in the game and he would have scored a few points. That's like calling LeBron James a legend for dropping 40 points on the Knicks.

I think it goes beyond just that shuk (and he is only the second player ever to record a triple double for LU...some guy named Ed Gomes was the other....heard of him?)...

If we are throwing bones to likeminded Christian schools, I'd love to see us schedule Houston Baptist (transitioning back to DI) or Cedarville (Transitioning into DII).

Agreed, if they wanted to schedule a low tiered team for an easy W, they could have gotten Roanoke or Randolph College or really any ODAC team in central virginia, payed less money, and would have gotten a much more competitive game. it's not like LU is so bad that settling for just any win is needed.

First LU basketball player to record 2 Triple Doubles = legend. Obviously not outside of the Liberty realm. But we aren't talking outside the Liberty realm.

So, is level of competition ever considered? Do you watch the games, or only ever analyze the stat sheets?

I take nothing away from the accomplishment that was achieved, but to call him a "legend" for doing it today against Kentucky Christian risks laughable legend criteria even within the Liberty realm. Clap & cheer for him, but take the triple-double against this opponent with a HUGE grain of salt.

I understand. But when you take his position as the captain of the team when he was only a freshman, and has continued that position as captain and is only sophomore and recorded his first triple double as a freshman. He is and is known as the face of Liberty basketball right now, and is only a sophomore. I know it's a terrible opponent and shouldn't have been counted as a game, but on the stat sheet it records him as having his second career triple double, which is the first ever. It's not the accomplishment against the opponent, it's the accomplishment in itself. And I guarantee it will not be the last. Probably won't be the last of this year either.

While I agree that it's a great accomplishment and all, calling him a "legend" is a little bit too much. While he is the first LU player to have 2 Triple-Double, you HAVE to consider who he played against. KY Christian is a NAIA D2 school. You'd expect Jesse to have the type of game he had against them. Now do we applaud him for his performance? Of Course. Do we need to start calling him a legend cuz of the two games against Presby and KY Christian (his two trip-dub performances)? No.

i dont know why you would use the word legendary right now. legendary is a word used at the end of the career cause the player was that great. does jesse have the potential and will most likely have that career here, yes. until then though by throwing out the word legendary all you do is put more pressure on the kid. congratulate him on an excellent game which is what it was, but be careful in calling him legendary until he graduates.

just my 2 cents

Konan, Sanders carry LU past Kentucky Christian

The Liberty men’s basketball team came into Saturday afternoon’s contest with the Knights of Kentucky Christian University looking to rebound from a tough loss to Coastal Carolina last Saturday.

Freshman forward Patrick Konan had 14 points and Jesse Sanders became the first player in LU history to record two triple-doubles as the Flames rolled to a 99-39 blowout of the Knights.

After the game, Liberty coach Dale Layer said: “We need to take every day with urgency and make sure we were getting better.”

I know Lang always points out that someone else writes the headlines, but the one in the paper copy of the fishwrap is embarrassingly inaccurate:

"Konan, Sanders sparkle Both Flames finish with triple-doubles."
:banghead PK had ONE assist.
