I agree LUConn... why don't we talk about how LU should support the basketball program and not look in the past for past people that are not in this program now, but were good when they were?

Just a thought.

Please take the time & go back through the threads to see how "anti" RMK I have been. I have said very little, even to this date. It was a bad hire, he had a bad track record, and I stand by that all the way. JB hired him, and it was a bad hire.

What about the present? Does that matter at all to you? I am behind Coach Layer, and wish the program success, and believe that this will be a rewarding year in many ways. I don't know where the team will finish in the BS standings, but I believe that there will be foundational work accomplished. I don't bemoan the Clemson loss, am not critical of it, & have no sense of panic about it in any way, in fact, I agree with those who say a packed house on ESPN has to be a good thing, overall. Better to win, but still a good thing for the program.

I stand by my comments.

I miss Gabe as well! All of the things he did, & one time when he didn't get the ball when he should have & could have. Great player, & about 100 times stronger than I realized - until he posted me up one day.

And if he picked off a pass on the wing, you could just hold your breath in anticipation, 'cause there was one ferocious dunk in the offing (that would be the close offing. - Just felt like using that word.)

Man I never know when I am going to see my highlight reel but I like it! I miss BJ, Seth and Alex and all the rest. We have had some really good players in this program that is for sure...I think this year's team has some talent but they just need to figure out some things. The big south is down this year IMO. I had a chance to watch VMI on Monday vs Richmond and they are really missing Travis and Chavis. I can't wait to see HPU and Asheville. They might be the most improved teams and Radford will be great. I think this Liberty team will be competitive in the big south after taking some licks the next few weeks.

I remember him throwing down some sick dunks. Easily one of the most athletic players we've ever had. I also remember him missing a lot of dunks hahaha.
Yeah, & if he did miss, the rebound was out to mid-court.

SCAR is also the man! (Whoops, I almost spelled that "mam")

I miss guarding podiums in practice and using a clipboard when playing defense in games. But I'm really glad both those props are in our past.

I MISS LARRY BLAIR.

I miss his ability to get into the lane and create shots for himself and hit midrange jumpshots on the drive that we dont have anymore. I wont take back anything I have said, but I do miss him and his scoring abilities when needed.

I feel sick, getting dizzy, getting very dark...

I haven’t said anything in the men’s hoops forum since Tuesday and don’t plan on saying much anytime soon. I said what I said on Tuesday and I meant what I said. I still do mean what I said. I’m making this one post, and I’m not going to respond to anyone’s responses to this post. I just want to get this out there.

I still feel the same way I felt Tuesday afternoon. We are a bad team. I got my hopes up after hearing we beat ECU convincingly in a scrimmage and then watching us take Mason to the wire. After those two performances I had the expectation that we would compete. Well, we’re obviously not competing.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned on here is that Cam Long, Mason’s leader, didn’t play in the 2nd half. They were up by as much as 17 or whatever it was primarily because of his play. Without him, especially in their first game of the year with all the new pieces they have, it’s easy to see why we would come back and make a game of it.

I have been one of the most positive thinking fans on this site for as long as its existed. I don’t moan and complain often. McKay proved he is a quitter, and I’m glad he’s gone (you won’t hear any more shots from me about McKay – this is the last one :D ). After watching the Clemson performance I knew this ship had sank. I don’t think Layer has the resources at his disposal this year to have us competitive. I don’t want to hear about how good Clemson and ODU are. I don’t care. We shouldn’t be getting embarrassed like that at home.

I love that JC and Baird have signed. But what do they provide us? JC is another guard with skill sets similar to what we already have on the team. Sure he could be a little bit better than the guys we have, but how much of a difference can he make? As for Baird, he reminds me of Carter. I hope to God that he is an all conference performer when he gets here, but I’m not counting on it. I’m waiting to see who we sign in the spring because we need some more talent.

I have nothing against Layer, and I hope he’s the man that can take us to where our program belongs.

And I don’t see how this is a “top 10 stupid thread.” I miss Ace. Anyone who doesn’t is crazy. He was a great ball player, and post players like that don’t come through the Big South often. It’s also insulting to me that two of you would say I need a vacation from LU bball. If I’m sorry for anything, its for being too passionate. Although I wish we had 1,000 more fans like me.

Anyways, that’s all from me until we get into conference play. I hope we can finish 5th-6th in conference, which I predicted. I’m not so sure we will be able to though.

This program has done no effective recruiting in the last two years. You are still playing with a number of players from the RD days. The performance of building has not been congruent with the hype given Mckay.

Two Seniors and one Junior on the roster. (Spencer-Ohman-Baker and Ohman was a walk-on) The rest are Freshmen or sophomores. That is a huge stretch to say that LU is playing with a number of players from the "RD Days". Your timeline doesn't add up here.

It is strange to me that with all the resources you guys have now the program has gone backwards. The guy I was sitting by last night said that four or five players were from RD's staff and no scorers have been recruited. Tough competition is one thing. Not being able to mount the least bit of a respectable effort is another. Hopefully things get better by your BSC games.

You were sadly misinformed by "the guy you were sitting by".

Sorry you are miffed by those statements. Neither of us was misinformed by the scoreboard. Like i said hope things get better by your BSC games.

Not disagreeing about the scoreboard. 100% in agreement on that one. At no point did I mention that LU was an awesome team at this time. I'm not sure where you got that idea from my post. You get no argument there. I was addressing the following statement which you keep clinging too:

"four or five players were from RD's staff and no scorers have been recruited"

That is not true. I will agree on every other facet. Mckay left and much of the offense left as well. A scorer has already been signed for next year under Layers short watch. Quick fix? Nope. Flames fans need to buckle up for a bumpy ride.

KO brought in by RD
TB brought in by RD

JA brought in by Sherrad or Eaker, recruited when RD was here.

Sanders could have been signed by RD if he was still the coach, RD has all the Texas ties. still paying off for LU, example (JC Sanders and S Baird)

(so that's 2 seniors, leading scorer, best big man)

yeah looks like hokie guy is right 1/3 are RD players.

Do you take yoga? because those are certainly some stretches. *oh snap* Should we give Ritchie credit for Tyler Baker because they're both from New Mexico?

KO, never offered a scholly by RD.
JA not signed by RD.
Sanders never recruited by RD. I mean was he even old enough to be contacted when Dunton was here?

Even if it were true, should we be surprised that there are still players around recruited by a coach here 3 years ago? You get 4 years of eligibility.

The Texas ties to Jesse were through Coach Eaker who actually signed Jesse's older brother Thomas to UT-Pan Am back before he came to Lynchburg to coach and before Thomas transferred to G-W.

Didn't Eaker work for RD?

thought so.

Slyfox, How many Texas players have played for LU and were recruited by RD???

Gabe, Marcus, LJ, Nic Wright, Okafor (Signed then when RD was fired went to Houston) E Miller, Smitty, who else did I miss?

My point is RD would have signed the Sanders brothers if he were still coaching. that is if he wanted them.

Ifs and buts, how do we know they would have signed? It's not like BeTray and Dunton had similar personalities/temperaments/styles.

I'm sure he wouldn't have. They don't match up to the talent level of his later recruits like Armon Jones and Nate Canpbell.
