the haters will say what they want anyway. One class will not a difference make in academic integrity. Decisions should not be made strictly on how it would be perceived from outsiders.

Smoothy, if I remember correctly, the administration (Jerry) canceled class so we could all go to the Big South basketball championship in Charleston in 1994. If not, I guess I just skipped.

Agree you guys have to hope to keep it close. Anyone remember what happened last time you played on an early morning ESPN game?

It being against Clemson helps, but overall exposure is still limited.

I think LU will figure out a way to get the students there, but it's not an easy decision for them - after all the previous Tuesday school is closed for elections too.

Classes were NOT canceled in '94, but our Chancellor did make it an "excused absence" for students; however, faculty were left here on campus to teach 1-2 students in each class, who couldn't find a ride to Charleston.

That's a definite NO. If a professor canceled class for a basketball game, he'd have to answer to his chair, dean, & ultimately the Provost.

And as much as I LOVE Liberty basketball, I'll be teaching my 10:50 class that day, unless official word comes down from the administration.

Ouch. I think that's the nail in the coffin. A previous cancellation AND it's a Tuesday/Thursday big boy.

Too bad we couldn't go a HALF day each Tuesday:

1. Have the afternoon off to vote on election day.
2. Have the morning off for the ESPN basketball game.

That was my thought but they've been talking about having classes off for election day for months.

It makes the most sense to do what you said, but unfortunately that wasn't thought of a few months ago.

Great idea back in '94; my only regret was that it didn't include the faculty.

I see no reason why they couldn't go with CJ's idea. Half a day is plenty of time to vote, and then no class would be cancelled more than once, which we were planning to do anyway. We'd probably take some flack for placing equal emphasis on a ball game and the election, but who cares.

It's wayyyyy too late to retract the full day off for election day. They already have a bus schedule worked out, and activities planned. Election day is as set in stone as it can be.

I don't see why they can't allow students an excused absence from class as long as they attend the game. That way those that don't want to go to the game can go to class instead, and it will be an incentive for students to go to the game.

Just as a side note...

Clemson is ranked 24th in the preseason USA Today poll.

I saw the ranking of 24th. I was a little surprised by it. I figured they would be a bit lower after losing Rivers and Oglesby. There length and Booker will give us problems.

most profs still count excused absences towards the penalty, and alot of mine dont even differentiate. Then again I dont know what im talking about I dont have TR classes anymore haha

The only way you're excused from classes for the game is if you stay the entire game, thus forcing our kids to not leave like they normally would.
