Found out today from a source that G-W signed a contract to play Duke in Cameron next fall, so our out of conference schedule is looking like this:

James Madison (return game for Bracketbusters)
Western Carolina (return game from last year away game)

AWAY:

Just saw a tentative schedule for G-Webb...I won't post it here, but the out of conference schedule I mentioned sticks, along with cupcakes the first three games at home: Covenant, Montreat, and Methodist. That is it for out of conference, except for the Bracketbusters again in February.

Three things stick out about the in-conference slate:

(1) We play at High Point and at Radford in early January when the students are gone. We hosted games in those slots last season, and it sucked since the good HFA with students did not exist.

(2) We have four straight home conference games between Jan. 21-30.

(3) We play five of the last seven conference games on the road. Add in a likely road Brackbuster game, it could be six of the last eight on the road overall.

Not trying to be funny. Thats what he means. Notice the teams like florida illinois and so on aren't in the ACC. All games played outside of the conference are called out of conference games AKA OOC's

Yeah, but I can't really complain with ODU, Clemson both coming to the Vines and GMU, ND, Northwestern. The majority of this schedule was set up when we had Seth, Brolin, Austin, RM, etc. So I can see why Layer wanted some "wins".

I am kind of glad that we have the schedule we do. The season starts off with good teams and I think we will need some confidence games in order to make a run at the BSC.

I agree with that. I do hope Layer will bring stability to the program and re instill confidence in some of our players.

my 2 cents:

I like that we are playing more high major games because those are games we want to start winning and you can't beat them if you don't play them.

I too think 4 NAIA teams is overkill but I also understand that we need a few easier games this season to make adjustments to a new coach/players/system. I wish the 3 cupcake/preseason scrimmage schedule in mid december had maybe a weak DI team substituted but who knows we may really need those games (scrimmages) to straighten things out by then. I tend to think we will actually do quite well this season but if some of the rest of you are right then those cupcake games will be welcome reprieves from the thumpings we will have received in November and early Dec.
