He would want to be closer to home.

I'm pretty sure the distance was always the issue with Austin, and then it was compounded by RMK's departure, since Austin had known him for a long time. I understood he wanted to transfer to Northern Arizona, but maybe they don't have a schollie for him.

i think i addressed this awhile back, he wants to be closer to home so he is thinking about going to Northern Arizona (chris lang said the corrected me on the first college and i still cant remember if it is just northern arizona, or northern arizona state) but yea he just wants to be closer to home is the main reason

Northern Arizona is correct. They were the other school that offered him while he was still in high school in Tucson.

ESPN grades him a 77 and has this to say:

Antwan is more of a power forward right now and is in the process of developing his perimeter skills. He has a strong, college-ready body. He scores more on put backs, tip ins, drop offs and power moves in the paint. He needs to keep working on his jumpshot in order to play the 3 at the Divsion I level, including his mechanics and his overall range. He is very athletic and is a terrific rebounder on both ends of the floor. He's built like a football player but has the athleticism to finish above the rim. Liberty loves his upside and they hope to develop him in to an effective scoring combination forward.

I like this kid. We need to get more physical, and his body should provide some of that. He will most likely need a year or 2 to develop though. I hope our coaches and fans are patient with him.

And hurray for my 2000th post.

Might as well. He sounds like a project.

I think that might be the best route. I think it comes out to can he do things Weaver cannot? At this point, I don't think so. After a year in our program and maturing a bit, I think there is no question but if we can get by with Weaver giving us 10 minutes a game in the post, there isn't any reason to play Burrus this year.

That was my point. If he's that young, that raw, and still working on his paremeter game then redshirting may be a good thing. I think they will, but we also don't want to cut the available players too tight.

Non-medical redshirting is an option for a player like Burrus, but it is one being used less and less in college basketball with the 13 scholarship limit. You think you don't need a kid this year, so you redshirt him, and then someone else gets hurt and you're either cought shorthanded or need to burn a year of eligibility for a partial season. It's not like football, where you have more schollies, and a lot of incoming freshmen really NEED that year of maturity and weight training to be ready to play.

I don't foresee Weaver playing too much next year.

Well, things are looking good for him. He kinda blew every opportunity he had last year. Lucky for him this coaching staff wasn't here last year. He'll at least get a fair shake.

You and me both. I do hope that Stephene will step up his game next season, and I can see Anderson getting some touches for a "3."

I hope he is able to put it all together and be a solid contributor for us. We lost Brolin who played the same position as Bill, but adding Joel, Perez, Minaya, Carter, Jeremy, Konan and Burrus who will all fight for the minutes of the guys we lost doesn't help him.

Layer Signs Burrus to Men's Hoops NLI

May 18, 2009
“Antwan is a very special player who has come a long way in the two years I have coached him,” said South Central High School Head Coach Jerry Woodside. “He works in the weight room extremely hard and is really special on the glass, setting himself apart as our best offensive rebounder the past two seasons. He was our captain and did the unselfish things too, which is evident by being third on the team in assists and altering a lot of shots on defense.”
