i disagree. setting his car on fire would have been overboard. Slashing his tires and spray painting the score to the LU Vs. UVA game from this year all over it however.....

OK...a coach from ANOTHER SCHOOL...playing pickup with players from OUR school. There has to be an NCAA violation in there somewhere.

I would be surprised if Layer did not know about and OK this. My guess is because Richie left in such a hurry, he didn't get a chance to say proper goodbyes to the players, and this was his way of doing that.

When you leave like he did...there is no such thing as a "proper goodbye." I supported his decision...but this REEKS of tampering.

I truly believe he already regrets this last move from some of the things I've heard.

If he doesn't like UVA and doesn't want to be a head coach maybe he is auditioning to be Coach Layer's assistant.

These guys play pick up just about everyday...the coach's dont know, or really care for that fact. Nobody in their right mind was expecting this...

But if Jesse had already said he was coming back for sure at this point like you said he did, then it could just be a case of a former coach playing with his old team. Yeah, it's a tricky situation but to imply that purposeful illegal activity was going on is a bit much.

Logical guess at what went on:

1) The McKays went to church at Thomas Road.
2) They then stuck around and had lunch/visited with friends.
3) Ritchie found out the players were having a run in Schilling.
4a) He asked if he could come along.
4b) He was invited to play.
5) The McKays went back to Charlottesville.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't like the fact that he's playing here this soon after or that he was wearing UVA shorts but this stuff happens everywhere. You get pickup games with coaches and players from different schools. Go to the Triangle in North Carolina and I bet you'll find a mix of UNC, Duke, NC State, NC Central, and God only knows how many other schools running together. I can almost guarantee Wojo has played in the same pick-up game as Hansbrough over the past four years.

Right, but its one of those deals that may not be a big deal and we could always say "things like this always happen" but either way it's not allowed per the NCAA


Each NCAA sport has different rules when it involves this kind of stuff...some sports contact is allowed but you cannot talk about recruiting...I thought that was the case in basketball but I found out that in basketball its no contact whatsoever
