McKay/Soucie will do a better job of tapping into this guy, than the previous staff, although I believe Lex was moving in this direction:

Darryl Gladden is a former big-five all-star point gaurd for LaSalle University. He has Liberty connections, as his oldest daughter was briefly in the LU fold. His son, Darryl Jr., is a redshirt freshman point gaurd for Siena University (still alive in the dance).

Gladden sends two or three players to the high majors every year. He recruits from all over the place. One year, he had three starters from France in his line-up, all D1 prospects, if I'm not mistaken.

I will say this though: I think that McKay is able to recruit anywhere. It's a great sign that he's landing in state players like Soko. Tapping into Florida is another good sign. And we continue to get good players from Texas.

I wouldn't be surprised if McKay eventually lures some big-time talent down from the talent-rich Boston-NYC-DC areas.

You left out a good one on your list of Flames from the NYC area dox. Maybe the toughest player ever to put on the red white and blue.

Would that be Eric Sorenson. I remember him. Power forward back in the Peter Aluma era.

Bingo! Soro is from Staton Island. He was redshirted as a freshman on the 94 championship team and then played 4 years. He played the power forward position pretty much throughout his career despite being undersized and not particularly athletic.

I should've put a little more time into that one, before I posted. How I could I have forgotten Soro banging down low and diving after loose balls? You're right, he was one of the tougher players to suite up here. Good charactor guy as well.

This is so true. Delawn had one of the best single seasons in LU hoops history. He was a very good player.

This thread is missing some common sense. Sure you could commit recruiting resources to the NYC/Jersey/Northeast/Midwest and you might land a recruit or two, but it would by and large be a misallocation of effort and resources. Because you are Liberty you have to deal with the religious aspect just as VMI has to deal with the military aspect.

"The Midwest most closely resembles the religious makeup of the overall population. The South, by a wide margin, has the heaviest concentration of members of evangelical Protestant churches. The Northeast has the greatest concentration of Catholics, and the West has the largest proportion of unaffiliated people, including the largest proportion of atheists and agnostics" With 10.8% of the population consider themselves Baptists in the Evangelical tradition (6.7% Southern Baptist) it would be unwise to concentrate on a region that is not rich in people who have a worldview similar to that of Liberty University. If you don't take this into account, you probably will continue to have transfers even if you do sign them originally.

The statistics and quotations are straight from The Pew Forum survey.

LU is somewhat unique for a school our size in that we recruit pretty much nationwide and always have. Next year's roster should have 3 from VA and 4 from FL, with 6 other states being represented by 1 player (including 2 from the heathen hordes of the West.)

All of the players from up there that are good want to get out of the city. None of them want to go to a wack school in a weak conference. Trust me, how can you talk about charlotte players when you can't even hold on to Curry.....ouch.
