I know--conference affiliation, strength of schedule, RPI, quality OOC wins, bad losses, etc.

(Didn't the football team go through all of this a few months ago?).

So, does the team keep practicing with the hope of playing another game, or do they just have a practice or two before a game if that happens?

That's what I was wondering. Do these kids have to stay during spring break on the off chance they might have another game or two or do they get to have the week off?

With Davidson's loss today, they are pretty much NIT bound. I think the Curry vs. Curry match up appeal is your shot at the NIT.

I just said that in the Davidson thread...Davidson being the top seed with LU being the bottom seed

I don't even know if we will get the CI.com tourney. We have a shot. VMI deserves the NIT over us, and they have less than a 5% chance of making it. It's alot tougher than you guys think, and it's tougher now with the new rules of teams that don't win their conference tourney but do win their regular season.

I would think that between the CBI and NIT that VMI will get picked up. I think we are a perfect fit for the CI tournament.

Case in point about how tough it is to get in the NIT. Davidson craps out in the Socon semis tonight, surely NIT bound now, another spot taken that might not have been.

i know at least one person has said, prior to losing in the BS tourney, that they wouldn't want to take a bid to the NIT. Why?

B/c they are idiots???? haha I cant come up with a good reason....with a young team we would play an extra 2 months if they'd let us

We have no chance for the NIT. VMI has the best chance at that, and if they don't make the NIT, I don't think there is much hope of us getting in the CI tourney then. VMI should get in the CI before us.

I would think if VMI doesn't make the NIT field they should be in the CBI. Regardless, I don't think either of the minor tournaments care how many teams are coming from your conference. They're going to decide based on merit and who will draw a crowd and/or a TV audience.

LU
NIT: No Chance
CBI: Slight Maybe
CI: Maybe

VMI
NIT: Slight maybe
CBI: Maybe
CI: Probably

VMI's style of play gets routinely noted, and they have the win over Kentucky. We beat UVA, but thats not as big a name as Kentucky. I don't think the Curry v. Curry matchup in the NIT is going to weigh that heavily on the minds of the selection committee, as they'll think about it for five seconds and then say "Good name matchup, but thats it." It definitely will not be the trump card. We saw that in Bracketbusters.

I hope we get in somewhere because it would be great for a young squad like ours.

Hats off to Coach Ritchie. He did a marvelous job. I mean to have a squad that could not spell defense at the beginning of the year and to make them a respectable bunch is a geat accomplishment to say the least.

When are the selection shows? I assume they announce the NIT (when I was younger, I used to believe it was called the 'Not Invited Tournament') sometime late Sunday evening. What about the CBI? The other one?

I could be wrong, but I don't think the new tourneys have selection shows like the NCAA and NIT. Probably just a press release.

Don't underestimate the pull of younger Curry. The bottom line for these tournaments is to draw crowds. People would come to see the next generation of Curry.

I'm hearing from good sources that CI tourney wants Liberty, and they would be matched up on the road with a SoCon team, provided the NIT doesn't take two SoCon teams.

My .02, but I think both Davidson and College of Charleston make the NIT. Davidson going to Va. Tech in the first round, Stephon Curry returning to his dad's old collegiate stomping ground. College of Charleston playing NC State or Miami makes sense.
