I commented on this thread in good natured fun but since Champion changed the topic and tone slightly I will add to my thoughts.
I agree with HMO's thoughts above. And let me add my feelings that we at LU tend to breed more than our share of overly sensitive, don't point out anything wrong even if it is ridiculous, support the party line at any cost, the entire city of Lynchburg hates us, LU homers from time to time. There is such a thing as loyal dissent and you can love the school, JE, JF and the whole thing while still hoping and pushing for improvement. I love LU but don't feel bad or disloyal occasionally pointing out the flaws when they appear.
I am a big Cubs fan and loved Harry Carey but if he didn't have Steve Stone the last 10 years or so to keep him straight and fill in the gaps you wouldn't have had a clue what was going on on the field. Steve allowed Harry to be Harry and in some sense extended Harry's career made him more enjoyable and more of a beloved icon. I could be mistaken but I believe JE did have a side kick for a while. What happened? I have been listening to JE since 1991 and have enjoyed him and don't want him to go but some help diciphering the action would be appreciated as a fan living too far away to make it to the games in person.
