I commented on this thread in good natured fun but since Champion changed the topic and tone slightly I will add to my thoughts.

I agree with HMO's thoughts above. And let me add my feelings that we at LU tend to breed more than our share of overly sensitive, don't point out anything wrong even if it is ridiculous, support the party line at any cost, the entire city of Lynchburg hates us, LU homers from time to time. There is such a thing as loyal dissent and you can love the school, JE, JF and the whole thing while still hoping and pushing for improvement. I love LU but don't feel bad or disloyal occasionally pointing out the flaws when they appear.

I am a big Cubs fan and loved Harry Carey but if he didn't have Steve Stone the last 10 years or so to keep him straight and fill in the gaps you wouldn't have had a clue what was going on on the field. Steve allowed Harry to be Harry and in some sense extended Harry's career made him more enjoyable and more of a beloved icon. I could be mistaken but I believe JE did have a side kick for a while. What happened? I have been listening to JE since 1991 and have enjoyed him and don't want him to go but some help diciphering the action would be appreciated as a fan living too far away to make it to the games in person.

Back in my day (five years ago), JE had to pay his own way to games. It'd be difficult for him to bring anyone along to away games. I don't think he gets any money for being the 'Voice of the Flames', it's not like WRVL won a competitive bidding over the rest of the radio stations in the area.

That's what I was hinting towards in saying that JF would have kept him on payroll even after his departure

Its all a matter of opinion though. Its extremly frustrating to not know whats going on during the game, and the ones who listen to opposing broadcasts would say that although DePaul or StLouis dont have HOF talent there, they are understandable. They do make you feel like you are there, not just getting the ESPN recap the next day.

I think jery Edwards is great. He gets a little behind at times, he makes some pronunciation erros occasionally. But when I hear his voice I know who I am listening to and I still enjoy listening.

Look at Herb Score with the Indians - he butchered everything when he did play by play but the fans loved him and still do!

Apparently we are all on the same page! Thanks for the responses to my post. I really wasn't trying to to be critical of anyone and I appredciate everyone taking it in the spirit it was meant. With that said....carry on!

The weirdest two moments listening to JE.

One: I don't remember the exact quote. But I think it was after the longwood game last year...and during the postgame there were people on the court shooting baskets or something, and some little girl got hurt. And JE was sortof doing a play by play of what was happening..."This girl just got slammed to the floor right in front of us. She needs a doctor...wait, Ritchie is going to get a doctor for her, he's trying to get the team doctor. Ritchie, do you just see that? And then Ritchie said, "Yea, let's pray".

Two: About 3 or 4 years ago...It was an away men's bb game at Birghiham Southern. Their shot clock was not working, and so they had some guy on a PA saying 20, 15, 10, 9, 8, 7...JE is talking, and it sounds like a spaceship is about to liftoff in the background.

I also saw JE at Wendy's or Crackerbarrel or something, after somekind of shelacking at JMU...what I loved about listening is he's always the same. I love listening to JE on the radio...he does a good job. I do wish they would get someone to keep stats for him...do you ever see him...he's sitting there announcing and keeping his own stats.
