This administration and staff has squandered budgets and time. This is D1 basketball...go get some players. Tony Bennett is better because they now have 6-8 players who can really play. LU has had one coach in MBB who has proven he can consistently land the talent to put some at top of BSC.
If you arent going to answer questions then stop bringing yourself up (Jeff Meyer). You won 1 championship and the rest of the teams underachieved. Also I believe some of your assistants get credit for recruiting as well from what I can remember Larry Blair was a Chuck Martin recruit. You are funny seriously..Coach Dunton get over it man..i know this is you.
I'm going to have to take this under review. There was a Pre-emptive Jeff Meyer. I will have to consulted to the video booth but I think the ruling on the field as 'Proactively Reported' will stand

I liked Chuck Martin. I also liked Bob Davis. Meyer had some crappy assistants who I think are in radio and TV now 8)

Lifer is a clown, only because his Denver post about their offense.... In the history of Super Bowl champs only 4 times have defenses been dominate, 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens, 14 Seahawks & 1 other I can't remember.

Isn't it strange that "you know who" and his minions ALWAYS liked to take credit for the talent he helped recruit as an assistant, but as a HC his assistants got no love whatsoever. Yes, he did bring in some talent for Meyer, but at a cost. That Lugo kid was a real gem of a fit for LU, wasn't he? Recruited him not once, but TWICE.

Didn't Bear Bryant say, "offense sells tickets, but defense wins Championships!"

Here is the facts on Superbowls in 48 games the losing team scored 17 points or less in 31 games while scoring more than 30 points only twice.

Hey dip wad,

I agree defense wins championships, in football only!!!! Who coined the phrase? Bear Bryant, Lombardi?? Exactly football coaches... Actually special teams can win in football opening kickoff run it back, so neither offense or defense wins a championship when you have a Percy Harvin returning kicks..

None offensive minded coaches in basketball use that phrase all the time to shed blame to the players when the other team scores.....

If you score you can set your defense!! When you don't score the other team is always running back at you.

There are a few things that are really :rofl on here:
#1. I am RD
#2. To what length 3-4 on here go to discredit his contributions to LU basketball.
#3. All this, while we see a basketball program under this administration move dramatically South in the Big South, on a campus where the President is doing things that are on par with any University in the country. Yet our athletic performance has failed to move even remotely close to the $$$ invested....answer that question.
#4. To think that many who love LU can not see things for another view to take advantage of the opportunity at this time in the university's development. Just maybe there is a better way.

You are the one who said only 4 defensive teams had won the Superbowls, so in looking at your non factual statement actually there were 31 strong defensive performances...now you say "defense only wins in football" and I'm the dip wad :dontgetit

In the Big South 28 MBB tournament championships only 7 times did the losing team break 70 while 12 times never scoring even 60. Defense wins.

Did you go back and see how each Super Bowl team scored, no probably not and neither did I.

If you are who everyone says you are on this board, let me say this to you...

Larry Jackson & Larry Blair were known for what...? Defense or their ability to score? Was Matt Hildabrand a shut down defender, not hardly?
your 3 combo guards that you coached were offensive players not defenders. 2 out of 3 won a title and the other played in 2 championships and beat UVA by himself with his shooting.
You may still be coaching if you knew how to beat VMI's 2-3 zone defense in the tournament loss.

BSK don't let the numbers trip you. And certainly reducing your self to name calling will bolster your argument. My rec league coaching may not match up to PH's upward so I recognize my lack of in depth instruction however my high school coach was outstanding and he stressed defense.

It is sunday and I am feeling extra forgiving so I will ask you again lifer. What should be done to turn this program around? I am practically begging you to answer because I genuinely would love to know. We can't go back in time so lets look to the future. Come on man, you have to have more of opinion than just simply being ticked 7 years after a contract wasn't renewed.

Here is what you do LBL in case what postie is asking is too hard for you to comprehend:

Im not the AD, but if I was, I would want a young assistant, probably from a lower division school or another low-major D1 school, someone who is an aggressive recruiter, willing to blow up the frequent flyer miles and go from coast to coast covering all the major hotbeds, but not willing to compromise the values and mission of the university in order to get players to make us a consistent player not only in the Big South (or wherever we end up) but on the national stage as well. Maybe not necessarily on the level of schools like George Mason during the latter Larranaga years or VCU or Wichita State right away, but consistently in that 20-35 range and builds for the long term viability of the program

See, that ^^ is the sort of things you ought to be saying LBL

This whole discussion is absolutely turning into something laughable. JB & DL have been given unmatched resources from any of our previous coaches or any program in the history of the BSC! LU is now 13-36 vs d1 teams, 9-17 vs BSC in the last two years, this is DL's 5th season and he has a senior loaded team, yet some want to say that we are recruiting players who fit the mission. Are some simply reduced to making excuses, has losing become their acceptable standard?

No. We are all just waiting for you to offer your solution. Of course we are supposing you have one, which is where we could be in error

I practically GAVE you the answer to postie's question and you still go with your same diatribe...I think its safe to say that you dont WANT to answer...or you dont have one and just want to go on about your hate for JB and how DL is not the right coach or blah blah blah...look, I dot have a problem with you having an opinion (every one of us has one). The problem I have is that when directly asked what should be a fairly simple question, or even slightly challenged, all you do is go back to the same talking points that you have had since the day "he who shall not be named" left. THAT is the problem that I have and why you have regularly worn out your welcome on this board.

Actually.. as an outside observer I would just consider that if LBL can't answer the direct question posed, it should easily say something about how much time some folks spend in trying to argue/debate/banter back.. I find it interesting that he completely ignored the question.. but perhaps that's just me.

For what it is worth having watched Liberty play yesterday.. I thought coming into the season and still that LU has pretty decent talent.. The guard play needs to improve since it is a noticeable deficit.. there's no sharpshooters that I think any BSC team fears for example... Sanders has played a certain way (slashing/catch & shoot) for years and it's tough to have him suddenly become a facilitator.. he gets a lot of criticism here and while I agree that he makes some let's just say interesting decisions- he's the only guy I saw that can beat a guy off the dribble- he's just not able to finish around the trees against good defensive bigs.. Gielo is a typical euro-guard and I felt since his freshman year that Layer has erred in trying to make him a small forward until this year where he seems to play in a more natural big guard role- problem is that although he's an upperclassman- this is really the first year he's played in that role for LU.. I've liked Andrew Smith since he played in the BSC tourney at UNCA against ChuckSouth in Jesse Sanders' final game- I thought he showed glimpses of something more substantive than what he has contributed since that time.. I'm not close enough to know what his deal is- clearly he's an emotional player and that needs to be channeled more appropriately (i.e I don't think he gets the technical after that dunk if he hadn't been in the mix of several altercations prior to that point..); point is it appears that Layer and/or staff haven't utilized the talent on the team the way I would expect.. Or the recruiting tendencies aren't matching the type of play that you're going to play come game time.. I'm sure there's more to it but many schools have recruiting concerns.. VMI, UNCA, and LU have 'way-of-life' issues that aren't going to fit everyone.. but even more so, if I'm a kid in HS I'm watching how you're using guys that look like me.. right now that's pretty inconsistent.

My vantage point is limited being a UNCA fan but I have watched lots of games over the years not involving the Bulldogs and it just seems that some of the utilization is questionable.. That makes recruiting look either good or bad thereafter..
