The more I read about Coach Layer, the more I like this hire.

Layer and his staff daily have a set of goals for the program that include:

• Recruit great players to compete at the highest level in the nation.

• Develop those players each day to strive for excellence and improve skills to play at the next level.

• Emphasize academics in such a way as to ensure maximum commitment to having each student-athlete graduate....

Academics remain the focal point of the entire program. Student-athletes at Colorado State are exactly that: Students first, players next. Layer and his staff emphasize the importance of academics. To succeed as a player in the program an individual must first succeed as a student.

Honesty. Hard work. Passion. Toughness. Defense. Teamwork. Unity.

The coach Layer replaced must have been taking the program in a different direction.

Just want to say that I wish Coach Layer the best. Don't know Coach at all, but have heard good reports. I never attacked Coach McKay (did evaluate him from time-to-time), but I feel better going in on this one then I did the last, just from reading about the last guy's track record.

I look for this to be better, although we ought to understand that you can't just snap your fingers & win the conference.

Going into a season with less than a full compliment of coaches would be highly unlikely, but with 09 recruiting probably wrapped up and no practices to run, they are fine for now. Only 3 coaches can recruit off campus anyway. As far as I know, Lundy is still unemployed. I'm thinking it will be him or a young coach.

I would guess that, at this point, the last assistant coach wouldn't start or be announced until the start of the new fiscal year, especially if they're still being paid by another school.
