Dunton did a lot of good things while he was here to. There were fans in the majority of the seats those first couple of years and I would say that the 2003-2004 team was arguably one the best teams we've had. I'm not saying that Dunton returns or be that guy, but I always question what Mckay really accomplished. In all seriousness, what was his biggest win outside of the conference. Officially, Curry left before McKay.

I would say beating UVA was a signature win, and one of 23 that year, which tied our D1 record. No conference championships, but he did coach the only post season victory in our D1 history over Rider in the 2009 CIT. The crowds were starting to come back and we were getting national attention.

There were 2 references. That is why you are not in charge of enforcing the rule

I'll give him credit for the UVA win, granted it's not today's UVA program, but its the ACC. I forgot about the UVA win, but there were some bad losses that year including Presby and GW. This was Mckay's 2nd year. Layer's team finished 2nd in the conference in his second year. The what if line could go either way.

His only feat was getting Seth for one year. He wasn't even really responsible for getting Jesse. The rest of that class was a joke and way overhyped. I don't care about Bo Barnes or Ovie Soko or whoever else he had potentially recruited. Just look at Bonds this year. It's like a broken record on the basketball board. I've never seen another fan base talk so much about the same coaches coming back whether it's Dunton Mckay or Meyer. I don't know much about Meyer but he seems to be the only one of that group that should even get a thought.

Oops. Almost missed one. Jeff Meyer

For the love of all things sacred... lets not go down this forsaken rabbit hole again. Dunton is gone and not coming back, Meyer is gone and not coming back. McKay is gone and not coming back. They all had their good and incredibly bad. Move on. Look for someone new. Someone who wants to be here and can keep with the mission of the school. Its not that difficult. It was done in football it can be done with basketball. Patience is key. We will find out what JB is thinking when this season is mercifully over.

I didn't say Liberty should. I just said that they are both interested.

There are going to be dozens of coaches interested in this position. It pays well, you are in a winnable conference, virtually unlimited resources, TV package built in, LOW EXPECTATIONS a beautiful campus, big plans for the athletic department, top notch facilities....I think some of the coaches mentioned are pipe dreams like Mike White at Louisiana Tech but believe me there will be BIG interest. I may throw MY name in the hat for this job and I swore off coaching years ago. :P

If anyone is able to just Coach Meyer's interests, it would be Scar.

I agree that we have a VERY attractive position for whoever follows Coach Layer. Keep in mind that we pulled him from the top assistant seat at Marquette. We will have a ton of options when we are ready to seriously look.

REALLY surprised that noone has mentioned this name yet. How about RONNIE THOMPSON of the JOHN Thompson clan.

* Name Recognition - help fill up that Vines Center
* Recruiting capabilities - again off name alone gonna bring in that one or two kids that could be the difference
* Wow Factor
* Having coached college and being around Georgetown he is used to and aware of the "Christian" Standards imposed and expected of a Liberty Kid.
* Discipline

Brings some credibility to the program. When All 6'10 of Big John comes in and lends a pointer or two that would go along way. Thank me later or at least let me sit court side for a game or two.

I just met Ronnie a couple of weeks ago at the Richmond game he was calling for NBC Sports. He doesn't seem interested in coaching to me. He gets a ton of hoops work. He could deliver the DeMatha and the Montrose kids out of the DC area though.

I think the assistant coaches that are brought in is going to be nearly as big as the head coach that is brought in. So much about being a head coach is about how well those guys do their jobs and know their roles.

For the record I do think both McKay and Meyer would entertain the thought of coming back to Liberty but both will have better opportunities in my opinion. Meyer could simply stay in the Big Ten as an assistant at Michigan or search for a mid-major in the MAC, Horizon etc. McKay will be on a lot of people's short lists despite what anyone thinks of him on this board. What has taken place with Tony Bennett up in Charlottesville has to be somewhat due to what Ritchie has done. He has been there 6 seasons so people with issues over his short stay at Liberty or any job prior might be a little less hesitant than before.

Again, there will be no shortage of people interested in this job. I just hope Jeff Barber calls me before he makes his decision. 8) :P :D. Totally joking of course. Jeff does a great job thinking for himself. But I will over my opinion when the time comes.

I think that Ronny Thompson should get another shot somewhere, but I don't think that he would be a good fit at Liberty. Let me go point by point:

Name Recognition - help fill up that Vines Center Definitely. And he would bring tons of connections because of his name. But here is where it gets complicated. When you hire a Thompson, you get the machine with all of the positives and negatives that come with it. The Ball State debacle exposed that (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?id=3088349). Which is a reason why he has not been hired as a full time basketball coach since then.

Recruiting capabilities - again off name alone gonna bring in that one or two kids that could be the difference Again, I agree.

Wow Factor Agreed.

Having coached college and being around Georgetown he is used to and aware of the "Christian" Standards imposed and expected of a Liberty Kid. Georgetown and Liberty are two completely different worlds. There is no comparison. I have seen nothing to suggest that the Thompsons fit with Liberty's worldview.

Discipline I don't know what kind of discipline you are talking about. On the court? Off the court? Both?

Isn't Georgetown the school that hid the cross in the chapel when Obama was visiting. Can't compare a liberal Jesuit school with LU. I don't know Thompson's faith or personal relationship with Christ so will not comment on that part.
