I would like to know average attendance per game over the past 10 seasons. I do seem to recall when I first started attending LU games, the attendance was much better than it is now.

The students for the most part seem to not support the team. Fans get more excited about a free pizza or t-shirt than they do the game itself.

Bottom line: put an exciting and winning team on floor I think fans will come. Every school has a lot of "fair weather" fans.

Winning helps in a one stoplight town. Our 'Holtmanniac' student section is solid, we've been drawing over 2K the past few home games. Even though it is a weeknight, I expect WU to bring a few tonight and us to break 2K again this evening.

I realize it comes with every team and every school but I guess this is just my biggest beef. I just want to see our student body get jacked up for our team no matter what. Not having a good basketball culture is just new territory for this born and raised NC boy. :banghead

You went to the wrong school. You went to school in the wrong state. Besides, name a school that does "get jacked up" for their team with the long and glorious tradition of losing like we do.

I spoke too soon...we barely drew 1,500 this evening.

Anyone set up http://www.firedalelayer.com yet?

It appears Longwood may meet your criteria, and in Virginia to boot.

Let me modify my statement: "... and in a town with more people than cows."

Yes.

I am hopeful we can peak come tournament time. The BSC doesn't have a really powerhouse team this year. We could get hot and win the tournament, or we could lose first game and return to the mountain.

Put your money on losing the first game...

A winning attitude doesn't come from a high energy atmosphere. It comes from just plain WINS, period!

All I'm saying is that the student body is pathetic when it comes to basketball games. So someone please tell me or not if recruits and players feed off stadium/crowd atmosphere. Am I seriously the only one that thinks this? Because I sure as heck know that I'm one of the only ones standing the entire game.
I can. I know players who play very excitedly and with emotion and energy....in front of <200 people.
+1 to PH on this one...if you were at the women's game on Saturday afternoon you could probably count the number of fans in the stands by yourself, but they still were diving for 50-50 balls, still getting fired up by big plays and still giving 100% even with so few people in attendance. If their attitude on the court was different with over 3000 in attendance (like they had for Best Field Trip Ever day) than it was having less than 1000 in attendance, that is a problem on the players themselves
these types of things don't seem to hurt the teams atop our conference.

as a casual liberty basketball observer from afar the last 10 years, i've always felt dissappointed that we have not been able to put together a consistent program that isn't void of noticeable talent or names. i even figured the seth curry experience could possibly help get some better names here but it seems that was completely botched.

with the enrollment we have on campus its just amazing to me how poor we are at recruiting.

I agree mallet.

LU probably has less talent on the roster from starting 5 to the end of the bench than any team in D1 basketball. We simply are not bringing in the talent to complete at a high level.

I agree that Liberty's mens basketball program should be further along than it is. I'm disappointed because a good mens basketball program COULD help to make Liberty look more attractive to prospective conferences. Our women's program is there, but if things were based off of the womens basketball, then the UConn Lady Huskies would have delivered UConn an ACC invite!

The money, resources, and the facilities are all there. It's just a matter of getting the right people in place. I'm not calling for anyone to be fired. I truly believe that we need taller guards and more team speed in order to be successful in basketball. If Liberty improve in those areas, they should be ok.

Stuff like this is nonsense. Completely unmeasurable.

Yes, Marshall and Sanders are 6´and under. All else being equal, having size in the back court can be useful. We have taller guards on the roster. They´re just not as good. BTW, The best guard in our conference is 5´8 on a good day.
