I think that as long as someone is willing to buy a ticket, we will find them a spot.

I have seen it with 10-11K in it for the Virginia High School League championships back in the day. You could do it pretty easily. 12 K and you start making the fire Marshall awefully nervous.

But I did check on G-W's place

From their media guide:
The home of the Runnin’ Bulldogs, 4,500-seat Paul Porter Arena, is one of the most intimidatingvenues in the Atlantic Sun Conference
I know when I went to a game there a few years ago for a TV game they announced a crowd around that number...but they had large sections upstairs blocked off....So, I think its capable of seating more...I might just be making it all up though...haha. Its an ugly building though, that is for sure.

With the new gym 2 years away its great pub for Asheville, but can't look good for the Big South as a whole.
Good point. For the good of the Big South, we'll try to take that out of the equation on Thursday.
IF we get to Thursday...
Way to go, Negative Nancy.

I win!
actually there have been a lot of seats that have been taken out most of which are above the tunnel and plus i counted those seats and another person did as well for ticket purposes and got somewhere around 75-7600 and that includes broken seats. don't let the media guide fool u.

I must have missed the "broken seat capacity" listed in the media guide.

I think CSU's entire gym would qualify.

I read something on espn or sportsline that said a 6 seed or worse had made it to the semis like the past 5 or 6 straight years.

I think all of you who are mad about UNCA's small gym should've urged your team to win more games this year..

Though it be but little- it is fierce!! Welcome!!

yeah, we should have won more games and then roped off all but 500 seats in our arena and only sat people in those. That would be great for the conference.

Tayler, Aaron, or Shawn, which one of you is that? It's gotta be one of you. I highly doubt it's Emily and I know it's not Keisha.

Fess up, which one of you is it?

Actually you guys did do that when I played at UNCA back in the 90's-- but it wasn't because you had home court advantage- it was when the site was hosted by member institutions on a rotating basis.. though the Justice Center is small it is of course better to have an arena that you can actually fill up consistently- plus it's louder than any large arena out there!!

Welcome to Asheville!

Yeah, my den can be really loud when me and a half dozen buddies start yelling at the television.

Great analogy.

Hopefully most around the country will flip by the channel and assume it is a low level high school game based on the gym and keep moving before they see any references to the Big South.

I'm just saying- you guys were undefeated at home this year- you sold out only the quarterfinal game all year?? What gives?? Especially considering that the university has so many more students- where's the love?? That's right- only when you win will they come.. oh wait- only in the tourney will they come.. Great analogy

I'm confused, are you asking why we didn't sell out the Vines Center all year? Do you realize that we'd have to sell 8500 tickets to sell it out?

Considering your average attendance is roughly 2500 and the arena seats 8500 and your student population is boasted to be over 20,000 students worldwide.. Forgive me if I am slightly confused.. additionally was the free ticket promotion to thanks the Liberty fans for their support or were ya just trying to find a way to actually fill the arena another way? You don't average a third of capacity and 13% of your student population... Or are my analogies still not up to par??

So why again does size matter- cause you don't even use what you've got- except for other non-basketball related events..

Well to be fair, the DLP students in Korea have a tough time adjusting to the time difference for it to be worth it. I guess we'll have to work on some kind of teleportation device in our new engineering program.

Really what you're saying has nothing to do with anything. But I think you're trying to say that the size of our place doesn't matter because we don't fill it. Ignoring room for growth, you're right. But it'd be nice if a major even that includes 4 different schools had more than 1500 seats. If you're having to turn people away at the door. That is very bad.

It's called the Vines CONVOCATION Center, it's there as a multipurpose facility to house the 8000ish on campus students for convocation. The 20,000 students aren't all in Lynchburg, and not every student is a basketball fan.

Our attendance has been somewhat disappointing, although up about 1000/game from last year, which come to think of it means our attendance increased by about the total capacity of the "Justice Center". We did have over 6000 on hand for the beatdown we put on the Bulldogs in the Vines this year, but that won't mean anything tomorrow night, and we know it.

That was my point, thanks for pointing out the errors I posted purposefully- how about we focus away from our gym (I will be the first to acknowledge that it is far below what any D-1 school should have, however in playing there it is as friendly to the 'Dogs of any place I've ever played) and the attention away from your gym- you guys can't fill it yourselves and relying on any school's fans to travel is inconsistent regardless of the location and venue..

Also for those you who think that only large arena schools should host- it defeats the purpose of playing hard and being successful in the regular season- how many of you recall seeing the first small major conference highlights where fans run all over the court- no one's paying that much attention to the seating and capacity.. and not many folks nationwide care enough about the Big South to form an opinion of one's school gym being shown on national TV

Secondly, when the Big South Tournament was at Liberty in the mid/late 90's- because Liberty never made it to the final game- they always had to move as many fans over to the bench side of the arena- just so that the ESPN2 camera's could pick up what appeared to be a capacity arena- it was crap.. So you're only there to support your school which is what the conference found out and went to the new format- Neutral sites didn't make money.. I don't know the answer but I know the games are at UNCA tomorrow and hopefully again on Saturday.. deal with it!

I think we all agree that you earned the home game. And that you deserve it. Nobody is saying otherwise. It just sucks for everybody, including the league itself, except for you guys. That's not the case with other arenas. That's all.
