BJ, no one on here said there'd be a huge turnaround. I don't know where you got that idea. If you saw the game, you would understand some of the frustration some guys have had. I disagree with them, but I can see where they are coming from.

Yeah...I didn;t get to see the game (bunch of family over for Turkey day) but I guess with the frustration I thought that maybe folks were expecting something very much like what Coach Rocco has done for football. Its my mistake for misreading frustration for high expectation

i never thought we would win. i said i thought we would lose by 18, but honestly its not how much we lost by that i'm not happy about. i know this is a transition year, i was just upset at the execution and thought it should have been better. maybe i'm asking too much, i just thought that they would give there best and what i saw tonight i do not think was there best. i understand a cold shooting night, which we definitly had. but it just seemed like there was a lack of hustle and that fundamentally there were problems. i expected some problems, just not as many as i saw.

i guess i need to re adjust my expectations to a little lower so that they don't miss as much.

We need to look at this game in perspective. UK is coming off its most embarrassing loss in decades and they had two weeks to stew over this. LU was the unfortunate recipient of thier indignation as UK stayed with thier starters up until the final two minutes. It's clear that they intended to make a statement here.

I believe that LU will learn and grow from this experience.

Also, keep in mind, much better teams of LU past have gone into places like Rupp and lost by even wider margins. So, this experience is not the end of the world by any stretch.

Early season losses by our BSC championship teams:

2003/04 lost by 29 to Duke at the Alaska shootout and by 27 to W&M

1993/94 lost by 25 to VCU.

No time for panic. Not even close.

We got a good look at the basket every time down the floor; we just couldn't execute.

I was pretty dissapointed with Alex. He missed several easy looks. I do give him a little bit of slack because he was going up against Patterson most of the night, who is going to make some NBA team real happy, real soon. That guy is the real deal.

i thought the first half was well-played... minus the 1/14. the second half results came because of a lot of things:

- as we discussed our good 1st-half rebounding, we jinxed the 2nd half. we did not seem to be in position to get a rebound nearly as much as in the 1st half.
- 1st-half D was better than 2nd half D.
- patrick patterson dominated.
- kentucky went on two or three significant streaks.
- i think maybe we got tired... or at least it appeared that way (weak passes, rushed shots, etc.)

overall, i really felt like the we could have played a closer game (which we did in the 1st half, but not in the 2nd). the game just got away from us. this game will undoubtedly help us as we continue on in the season and begin conference play.

That describes perfectly the game that I saw. Granted, I missed most of the second half, but from what I saw, that's what happened.

did you guys not think the offense struggled to get good shots? ...explaining the number of 3's we took.

kentucky also played good D.

i like how tj drove and got in the gaps. i say we let kyle campout in the corner while tj drives and kicks.

I think the thing that killed me the most is how many wide open shots we were missing...we were getting some pretty decent looks and we just were not hitting...they weren't shooting with confidence...and i guess that will come, but the offense is working, they are getting good shots....if they could just make the shots it would go a long way....they are shooting terribly right now....

The guys moved well in first half. Obviously we have a quality starting five. That is a sub-par Kentucky team and they kicked us in reality. I would have concerns with the number of 3's. We should win the next three.

i agree checkmate.

i would argue that an open look cannot also be defined as a good shot. we got open looks.

I think the problem is we get bored on here...and we look for something to say and sometimes it's not needed to be said

Bottom line is we didnt hit shots....and BJ, in football nobody ever questioned if we had the talent...most knew we did (transfers helped) but we've had talent...this team is not there yet talent wise...they will be I can promise you that

MARK MY WORDS: Liberty Basketball will always finish the season strong under RM...theres one simple reason for that...b/c they are playing team basketball, smart basketball rather than expecting athleticism to take over and win basketball games....at some point athleticism will run out and you'll lose your legs....but team basketball doesn't....we'll be fine guys

We were down by six though in that Duke game at halftime. They pulled away the last 5 minutes of the game.

Yes and even in RD's one down year wasn't it a 2 point game at half at Kentucky. In my opinion we half a ACC point guard, a solid mid major post and RM says Smitty is a pro so I would expect better.

you're right...an open look isn't always a good shot, sometimes you must make that extra pass for a good look...but we had some very good looks yesterday that just did not go down, i think that will change once these guys get more and more confident.....

ok so forgive me for my long stint away from the board. i've done a lot of traveling in the past few days. I got the chance to watch the guys play UK last night at 3 AM since i don't have FSN south. and they re-aired it late on regular FSN. anywho...

first off if anyone thought we could hang with a team that was mad and has us out weighed in the talent department is sipppin on the :koolaid there were some good and bad spots to the game. here are the bad:

-we threw up a lot of :pray as far as shots. well so it seemed. they actuall;y were wide open shots that we could just not sink to save our lives.
- our defense got :moppedthefloor with most of the game.
- we got in a lot of foul trouble which didn't help at all. :timeout

now for some happy thoughts that make me excited about confrence play.

- REBOUNDS! we had several possesions that we scored on second third and fourth chances which is huge for us. if we can rebound and then capitalize on that extra possesion we'll be in good shape.
-HUSTLE! our guys :buttkick in this department. they are obviously cpnditioned well. which makes the short bench easier to stomach.
-this goes under hustle but the guys were all over the floor scraping for every loose ball etc.
-Rell porter. i was doing :cartwheels because of his play last night. he truely does the dirty work and does it well.

I'm looking forward to this season getting to confrence play. we have the potential to be a good team. if we do well in the BSC tourney then :woohoo it would be great. i know this is seen as a transition year but we still have the telent and the ability to win it. and i will :fight anyone who says differently.

:rofl :dance p.s I love the new emoticons... can't you tell?

so I tune into the game, DirecTV channel 633, only to see the old "program not available in your area)

I call customer service, to be told: "oh- you're in the Philly market- we don't have rights to broadcast the game into your area"

shortly after the game ended- bing: programming back on the air :banghead :furious

Bryson, McKay has always been a big fan of the three pointer. If you look at the games earlier in the year, we shot a lot of threes. That's part of the offense. I think that explains the number of 3's we shot. We just didn't make any.

wow i have to agree with dox. the thing that will hurt this team is depth. but last night we just did not knock down those open looks.

Stats through six games(3 higher level teams, 1 lower level team, 2 comparible teams)

LU 41% fg 29% 3fg 66% ft -7 reb -26 asst/to 58ppg
Op 46% fg 37% 3fg 75% ft +7reb -7 asst/to 65 ppg

It will be interesting to see how we improve over the next six/seven
