Wasn't JB criticized for the TG hiring in football and now this in MBB. Maybe RM can have the same type of effect. Regardless, it will come down to getting better players into the program.

Great job guys, seriously. I just called the girl that dumped me in college for a saxophone in the marching band to see if she wanted to date again. She said no. So, you guys at least succeeded where I failed.
Your girl dumped you for a saxaphone? That's a new one.
Maybe she was looking for great sax.
Solid work :nod

Gielo should be ecstatic with this hire. The offense Ritchie ran here before was perfect for a stretch 4 who can shoot the 3, plus you can bet Layer will put in a good word for him. I don't think Thomasz will be going anywhere.

LU Student Advocate Twitter acct tweeted 'Great news! #SethCurry will be returning to @LibertyMBB along with #RitchieMcKay!' Dear God....what year is this?! I know that acct jokes a lot, but after today AND it being April Fool's, I just can't take it anymore.

He's a better coach with more experience under a perennial top 25 program.
The facility upgrades had not been talked about that much then... LUO was just taking off at that time so there was no way to know for sure what was about to hit campus in terms of better facilities and mind-blowing expansion.

BSK's analogy earlier comparing the McKay situation to an intimate relationship between a man and a woman is totally off base. One is business and the other is personal/biblical. I can understand that there is a lack of trust here, but McKay received the opportunity to go work for Bennett (a great man and coach) at UVa (an ACC team on the rise). On top of that, he didn't have to go very far to make it happen. So for him, it was the best decision he could have made at that time and in the end, he may have learned a thing or two from his time there that will make him more effective here. It's very possible that a few years from now everyone will be looking at the McKay situation from a much different angle.

The thing that impressed me most was RMK's comment that he would not speak to any schools, until he found out he was not the coach at LU. That was a big commitment and shows he wants to be here. It was also interesting that Tony Bennett's wife was there as well.
Not saying that JMK is this type of person, but sometimes, you appreciate things more, once you are gone. I know I love LU much more now that I am no longer a student there. I would do things much different now than I did so many years ago.
Hopefully we can soon attract athletes to LU, that could go to any school they wanted, but choose LU because of the mission that we embrace. May be too much to ask, but we have accomplished many things thought impossible by others.

I just want to address the concern that McKay could someday leave for a bigger job; I think it is definitely a valid reason for skepticism, but if McKay is leaving for a better job, it means that he probably has turned this program around. McKay will be here for a few years at the least, and if he ends up winning us a couple of Big South Tournaments and then gets whisked away again by UVA or another ACC school, good for him, and good for us.

Pretty pumped about this hire!

I mean what else is he going to say??

You guys are hypnotized, its a press conference and not his first one... of course he says things and Barber as well that will tickle most your anals and get you excited.

Scar likes him cause hes one of few coaches that text back and forth with Scar and shows him attention.

I think most common sense guys like myself and PH are more realistic.

Wow that's a great reason to like McKay. Because we text once a year and have a phone conversation every now and then. Wow, just wow. For the record, if that sort of stuff mattered to me at all, I would be texting with Jamion Christian at Mount St. Mary's, Mike Rhodes at Rice, Tim Floyd at UTEP and Jerod Haase at UAB. Not to mention my main man Bryant Stith at ODU. That's silly. I like McKay because I think he can do the job. Only time will tell if he will stay or not but that would be true of just about anyone you hire.

I'll defer to PH or JK37 or one of the other coaches/former coaches on the board for a more detailed explanation, but I believe its a 1-4 man to man defense where everyone is distributed around the 3 point line (or a couple feet inside of it from it) and "packs" the paint area countering the inside play of the opponent and forcing them to shoot from the outside.
