The issue is that you provide no solutions so here are the direct questions

We fire Jeff Barber. Who do we replace him with?
If we get into an FBS conference hasn't he done what he was brought in to do?
If we fire Layer, who do we replace him with?

I never said the BSKing threw mud....hopefully you can have a peaceful evening should let a little message board disagreement throw you side ways. We have 5 home games according to C Lang so maybe we can get from 10th to 5th and everyone will cheer the progress for MBB.

This question is for everybody:

If the season continues down the same road what should we do and why?

When I ask what we should do, if it includes firing someone explain what kind of candidate we should target, any why. If there is a person in particular that you think fits the bill then explain yourself.

I freely admit I don't know what we should do. I am guilty of complaining about things without giving solutions but I would love to actually get a real discussion going instead of throwing stones at individuals making this way too personal.

So I bolded the question because I realized I have rambled a bit. Looking forward to a good discussion (hopefully!)

If we do go the route of firing, I think we want a good character builder, but also an aggressive recruiter who goes after ESPN300 guys as equally as the Christian kids, but doesnt compromise the mission of the school for wins on the court, and frankly, is a young assistant champing at the bit for his first head job. I really think that going after "name" existing head coaches really has not gotten us any closer to where we as Flames Nation want to see our basketball program.

if Layer is fired which he should (great guy as a lot of you said but this is a business), Holtman is the guy Barber should be opening the check book for. in the coaching circles it's rumored he wants back into the coaching ranks.

and Liberty is a growing campus, with top basketball facilities, own network and one of the highest mid major paying jobs. They can easily attract the brightest up and coming young asst. coaches from BCS schools. I just hope Barber takes that route because he can hire a another mediocre big name guy.

Holtman is coaching, he's on Butlers staff currently getting crushed, although it isn't his fault that they are bad....he would be a good choice for LU. One thing about hiring BCS level assistants is they DO NOT understand the pressure of conference tournaments. Holtman has low major tournament experience.

Don't hold your breath. I'm still waiting for an answer as to how I 'discredit' his mysterious friend. Because to discredit means that someone is saying something untrue. But I'm sure he lacks the intestinal fortitude to bring any of it up. Having fired off his allegation he will retreat to the 'not dragging thru the mud' defense followed by the 'I'll meet you at the game'. He has the courage to make vague accusations but not to back them up in the same forum he makes them.

If that is one's skill set than we are also free to state that those are not the experience we shared. Hopefully we can hold home court against a suspect Winthrop team.

I'd be down for Allison. To recruit some talent to VMI in itself takes talent. Much like with LU(although i think it is slightly easier to recruit to LU than VMI). I love layer. I think he's a fantastic person. I think he's a great assistant coach and As a Head coach I think he's building these young men to be successful off the court in the future(faith,grades,Character etc). He's just not winning enough games to be successful on the court.

LU should not have trouble getting a good coach, nor should LU have trouble recruiting good players.

Recruit players who can score.

Rebounding and defense can be taught as part of schemes run. It's hard to win with a half court offense that depends too much on scoring from "inside the paint" after milking the shot clock.

A message board does not keep me up at night and really this provides me with a ton of great entertainment while I am at work and need a little break. Seriously I should be thanking you. I actually love the RD arguements and welcome them. They make this board a little more exciting. Answer me this..why has he not had a D1 job since being excused from Liberty???
