They don't make official announcements when a signee doesn't qualify BJ. We find out when they don't show up and/or we sign another player. There is no need to "release" the player from his NLI because one of the terms of that contract is that the player must qualify under NCAA rules. If they do not, the contract is null and void. If bballfan84 says Allen is not coming, that's plenty for me to start the recruiting discussion back up. His sources are the real deal, and to the best of my recollection he has been 100% with his "breaking news" on FF, going back to when he was the first to announce Richie McKay was going to be hired.

We are now full unless one of our signees doesn't qualify.

class breakdown:
3 seniors - Gielo, Smith, Johnson
2 juniors - Retic, Andoh
1 sophomore - Alcegaire
7 freshman - Kemrite, Maxwell, Allen, Talbert, Reid, Bonds, Moller

position breakdown:
PG - Retic, Bonds
SG - Kemrite, Moller, Reid, Layer
SF - Gielo, Talbert, Alcegaire
PF - Smith, Andoh, Allen
C - Johnson, Maxwell

This is the best recruiting class we have put together since the magnificent 7. Here is to hoping we retain them. Congrats to Layer and his staff for recruting guys that can play, but also seem to rep the school well. Looking forward to an outstanding season.

That roster breakdown was before the Alcegaire transfer out and the Theo Johnson transfer in. Looks more like this now:

class breakdown:
3 seniors - Gielo, Smith, J. Johnson
2 juniors - Retic, Andoh
1 sophomore - T. Johnson (ineligible in 2014-15 due to transfer)
7 freshman - Kemrite, Maxwell, Allen, Talbert, Reid, Bonds, Moller

position breakdown:
PG - Retic, Bonds
SG - Kemrite, Moller, Reid, Layer
SF - Gielo, Talbert, T. Johnson
PF - Smith, Andoh, Allen
C - J. Johnson, Maxwell

+1...It really disappointed me to see the players who were tasked with being the leaders on this team mail it in as bad as our seniors did last year. JK could probably tell you from his experience as a coach in HS and college (and you as well PH from your HS experience across town) how important having upperclassmen leading the charge heading into a season can be and how much of a detriment they can be if they are the ones dragging a team down

If the skill isnt in place, its hard to lead. I wouldnt say the seniors mailed it in, or were dragging the team down. They just couldnt run as fast, or jump as high, or handle the ball as well as their competition.

Totally disagree. Your most talented player often may not be your best leader

There are many reasons why Layer's teams have performed poorly, but lack of leadership was a major cause of our failures.

I was hopeful that our poor athleticism would begin to be corrected by this recruiting class, but it looks like that might not happen either.

Being the best player puts you directly in the leadership role. How you choose to lead is a different story. My opinion is JVP and JCS werent the best players on the team, but felt the need to be the leaders.

I would say that considering the fact that with Theo Johnson sitting out under NCAA transfer rules we only have 10 scholarship players available, we will probably try to bring in at least 1 more. Our track record with late summer recruits has been pretty poor, but I think that is probably the case most places. The talent pool has been pretty well picked over by now, but occasionally a hidden gem slips through. Maybe it will be our turn to find one.

IMHO, losing Bonds hurts much more than Allen. I had Allen as at best the 3rd big off the bench after Andoh and Talbert, and actually believe he may have been redshirted. Braxton would have been either the starter or backup at PG.

No it doesn't. It just gets you looked at more.
JCS was not the most talented player on the floor on any night. He was also not the best leader on any day.
