I'd rather have all teams make it. Then you don't have to deal with stupid tiebreakers, plus it gives everybody a chance to win it. There's really a lot of parity in the league. Hasn't happened yet, but I don't think it would really shock anybody to see a team ranked 7-10 get hot for three games and win the tournament here in the next couple of years.

With 11 teams, making it a 10 team tourney makes the most sense.

Of course, if KK was proactive, we would be trying to get ETSU or USC-Upstate in to get a 12 team league with a two division format, even though I'm not necessarily a fan of adding more schools that don't play football.

Yeah, I don't see the point in adding a non-football school. There isn't really a need for another team in any of the other sports. I've always been a fan of bringing in SC State because they have a football team (and that would be an easy road trip for me to make... ok, that's the real reason I'd like for them to be in the Big South). Of course, I have no idea if they would want to join or if anyone else would want them to join... they're just the first school I think of.

It's been stated elsewhere, but most of us would LOVE to have SC State. I know I would.

Is there any precedent for an HBCU leaving an HBCU conference? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Our best bet would probably be on getting Elon back (If the school has to play football). But I doubt they would come back until we get an automatic bid. What's the word on that?

We've got an automatic bid for this upcoming season. Also, the MEAC has discussed dropping their auto bid in favor of their champ playing the SWAC champ (I think it’s the SWAC). If that goes through, then a couple teams from the MEAC could be looking to go to a conference with an auto i.e. SC State.

Where was Tennessee State before heading into the OVC? It's the only HBCU in a non-HBCU league I can think of.

They have been an independent for most of their history. before the OVC they were independent since 1967. before that they were in the DII midwestern conference.

I don't know the latest about ETSU reinstating football, except that the student body voted down a referendum on increasing athletic/activity fees to pay for it.

I don't know if Campbell has any intention of moving away from non-scholly football either, but that wouldn't help the odd number of teams overall.

Would NC-Central, Winston-Salem State, or Savannah State be viable options?

This is from Kallander:
"I think the Coastal Carolina people did an outstanding job of hosting the games they held down there under some limitations," he said. "Clearly it's a challenge when you hold it in a smaller arena. ... Everybody [in the league] felt like they did the best job they could with the facility, but I don't think holding the tournament in a small facility puts the Big South in the best light.

"That's not a knock on anybody, especially not Coastal, but it's just the fact that some of our schools have smaller facilities. From a presentation standpoint, from a logistical standpoint and from a revenue standpoint in terms of having room for all our fans that want to be at the games, it's in our best interests to be at a larger facility."

Kallander supports a minimum-seating capacity for Big South semifinal and championship games.

If they decide they need a minimum capacity, I think they just need to go to a prearranged site for the semis and final. Too many hassles and bad feelings if someone like CSU wins and they have to scramble to find a qualifying site in Charleston.
