Wow, BJ getting love AFTER he signed at LU. Good thing JM wasn't at IU yet or else we would have had a whole new section on the board and a whole lot of conspiracy theories!!
As for local talent, who cares if they are All Americans are not. One GREAT way to boost attendance is have a local kid on the team. The girls had Jeannie Stennent (Ok can't spell her name) who had an absolutely outstanding coach at Brookville and she was a role player in the FIRST BSC run. Everytime she got in a game the paper had a picture of her and people around here knew a name and a face. Tidewater is not local. A good idea is to public announce that LU will hold open a scholarship for the Seminole or Dogwood player of the year on the team. That is a GREAT PR move, the player may not be a difference maker but wouldn't be a "drill buster" like say a SCAR or someone was We have had some very decent talent in the area from Altavista, Gretna, Heritage, Glass, Amherst, Liberty High . (Nelson County has a flat out STUD who will be a Senior) Brookville etc.

(It would be nice if the Women's team did the same thing, but that is another board)

Keep in mind, Sly and I were talking more about tapping into a specific region that Brad Soucie has apparently been targeting recently: the Mid-Atlantic Region. Sherard had good recruiting acumen in this region and he was able to land BJ Jenkins who has the potential to be as good as any gaurd that we've ever had here.

As far as locals go, the Lynchburg area itself is not exactly known for it's basketball talent. Football, on the other hand, is another story.

This area hasn't been a hotbed for bball talent historically, but that doesn't mean there aren't some in the works. The kid at Nelson, I believe it's Brown, looks like he is a legit D1 prospect, and don't look now but "little d" had a 6'6" sophomore teammate this year with really good athletic genes and an LU connection. Still growing too.

He was brought in because he's 6'11" and can shoot facing the basket not because he's a good kid. The rest of his game has just been slow to develop. He's got 1 more shot.

BHS has 2 kids that can and will play D1 basketball....and I'm not counting lil D....former basketball player Harry Williams' brother is very very good, I believe coach D was actually talking to him. They also have a Soph that is unreal. Although he'll prob. go to VT on a football scolly...but maybe he wants to play both!

Russ is a good player. He had to learn how to play at this level and I think he has done that. The kid shot nearly 70% on the year. That is pretty efficient...The 6-6 kid at Brookville is a stud and he is still growing if his shoe size is any indicator. Good kid too. I would love to see him at Liberty.

Ryan Kersten is a very talented Austrialian point guard with two years of eligibility remaining who left the UNM program shortly McKay's departure. Kersten has been McKay's fiercest and most outspoken supporter among the players this season. Kersten has returned to Austrialia in order to entertain options of playing professionally there. It will be interesting to see what happens in Austrialia. He appears to be weighing his options at this time. He is very loyal to McKay and Soucie and he could very well end up here.

Derek Oestreicher is a 6'11 red-shirt freshman who is also very loyal to the former staff. He sat out this year with an injured knee and he is untested on the D-1 level. Oestreicher doesn't want to sit out another year, but from what I've heard, McKay can lure him if he wants him.

We'll have to wait and see if anything concrete developes.

With so many prep schools and hoops factories nearby, this is long overdue. Surely we could come up with one floor in one of the dorms for housing without violating NCAA guidelines (this is an area where I admit I don't have a great deal of knowledge).

Yeah, that cant happen...but like I said before...this isnt to far off...it's just a matter of something working out...a few attempts just haven panned out...not to mention with the rapid growth of LU this has been put on the back burner.

Cypress Christian doesn't have dorms but they have their internationals live with families in the church. With a church the size of Thomas Road that would seem to be a viable option.
