Yeah. How frustrating would it be if you played a guarantee game, had the loss contribute to your firing, never got the money from the game put into your account, and then have it said that you couldn't run a budget?

This is your opinion, and is not held by many others, most importantly those in charge of the University. IMO three first round loses in a row, cellar RPI rankings, and many, many other things moved the hands of those in charge. RD is not coming back from the dead so get over it. :beatinghorse

I understand this frustration, but also realize that without this gurantee money in his budget, his budget was STILL significantly larger that any other budget in the conference. I believe the numbers were quoted in one of the articles by Chris. You have to believe he had enough money to run his program.

Another thing...if you look at other schools, I know at least UNCA, when they play their gurantee games, that money is used to fund the entire athletic budget! Eddie takes a beating every year in the non-conference season, and he sees none of that money. And FYI, since RD left the first time, UNCA and LU have the same amount of NCAA appearances.

The way guarantee monies are handled for men's basketball is no different than they way it is handled for the other sports and we don't see other programs complaining or going over budget.

Can I just say that I can't wait for the new coach to be hired if for nothing else so we can stop talking about RD and move forward...

I'm not saying that is the best scenario, becasue UNCA takes an absolute beating in thier non-conference schedule. That helps no one except those that are getting the gurantee money. I feel when the budgets are set up at the beginning of the year, you are given "X amount of $" and you operate within that budget. If gurantee money helps you reach that "X amount" then it is part of your budget. If gurantee money is not included in your budget, then you should not get "X amount, PLUS your gurantee money.

Just remember one thing - all you guys. The budget is an issue only because JB said Randy couldn't run one.
JB brought it up, named it as an issue, and we are in a defensive mode, with facts, which frankly, JB did not have.

If JB's such a man, he should not have manufactured this issue; should have just said "I want a change." Simple, and within the scope of his authority.

Anyway, the thread is aptly named, and I guess we're all having our say, which, when all is said and done, is the purpose of this whole thing. Obviously, we are not the decision makers. That is being done elsewhere. The site is designed for whining, postulating, and generally acting like we're somebodies. For some time now, many people have been bemoaning RD's leadership of MBB, and now, to hijack an oldies tune, "It's judy's turn to cry." meaning, it's the "Duntoners' turn to cry." Stop messing with our grieving process, or we'll be forced to turn you into the federal authories for the committing of a hate crime.

As for the GPA and graduating thing, while we have some players who are very good students (I've noticed BJ, TB, Rell, and Russ myself), we have others who rarely, if ever, come to class. I'm sure that had to be a problem.

GRM That is funny stuff. I would worry if the Feds showed up and took a look at GMTM computer. Who knows WHAT pictures and numbers rackets they would find.

LUREAL - One of RD's weak spots is running a budget. That has played out in more than one position he held. Sure you can blame it on his "underlings" in the office or "The Great Ego" in Hancock, but the bottom line was he was BRUTAL at managing the budget. There are probably good reasons guarantee money was placed into the MBB account like he thought they should have been. For instance taking care of over runs on the PREVIOUS years fiscal budget. There is also a process involved when reqing money, like getting those in PRIOR to spending the money. While there will be 'one off' situations, most programs are able to get their budget stuff handled in a timely manner.
As for building vs treading water, you can't look at what "might be" next year. Look over the entirety of his tenure. What is our record and RPI now compared to when he got here? Lower, Higher, Much Lower, Much Higher or about the Same. 2 of those 5 options would show growth

Russ made academic all conference, i went to as few classes as i had to at liberty as well, so i don't think we need to worry about him.
