I understand, which is why I am with you...Coach D needs to go...but the players aren't even being talked about, its all on the coach....and I don't buy that....the players are here to play basketball...just play hard....

playing basketball is more than playing hard...

Playing Smart
Playing Hard
Playing Together

those simple things can create a good team.....but coaching is the key....the players did not even have a game plan....why is it their fault??? They just stand around, that is all they are taught to do....

It's 100% on the coaching staff

frustration with the efforts/results of our MBB program is understandable- I would be pretty careful though, making THAT kind of aspersion.

I think that's wandering (well- LEAPING) into the area of personal attacks, and not appropriate.

and we're all as disappointed with the lack of W's this year- don't misinterpret my comment as apathy. Just a note of caution.

not much else to say, I guess.

I'd just rather not take it to that level, but I realize your frustration

The problem is, it isn't truth. It's an assumption. While it may be true, it cannot be proven. Truth be told, Randy Dunton may not be the best coach -- he's been nothing but professional for this team.

If you want to say he's a bad coach and needs to be removed, I'm all for it. Let's not throw stones at someone until it can be proven.

I am glad we're getting into philosophy on Flamefans...

Anyway, the guy is a crappy coach take it as a personal attack if you wont and lock the thread

That is indeed the truth, no assumptions about it

dickens, what qualifications do you have at being a basketball coach? if you are so darn knowledgeable why don't you apply?? you are just an armchair hoops fan who has an unhealthy hatred for our coach. i can appreciate your desire for LU hoops to be at a higher level, but personally attacking dunton is childish, and your crusade to have him fired is so noted every time you write on the hoops board. as TDD said, dunton handles himself with class and dignity. i would love to know what he did to you. with all of this said, that was a very bad performance last night. no flow offensively, very bad interior defense, just no life out there. this game wa a golden oppty to steal a win and it just did not happen. i really question the future, but the big south is very weak this year, and winthrop is heads and tails better than everyone else. i can only hope we get better quick!

Yall's expectations are too high for these games against good teams. They played a team that was beating UNC for the majority of the game and has done some impressive things this year and last. I expected about a 25 point defeat tonight.

Most of us didn't expect a win. We expected to get it respectable, and last night was anything but respectable.

with WU best player out we should've kept it within 10...I am not sure anybody on here besides paradox was expecting a win last night, but as SJ said it needed to be respectable

question for you guys...since dickens is the only one responding...

Is this all on Coach D?? am I the only one that feels as if he is getting too much of the blame?? Am I the only one that thinks the players are to blamed as well??

Winthrop outplayed Carolina and you know it. Winthrop only lost because Carolina was deeper.

Ouch:
With five minutes left to play, the Liberty coaching staff, all dressed in black, sat on the bench looking like mourners at a wake.

A couple of seats down, senior guard Larry Blair, his night done much quicker than expected, held a towel to his face and glanced up at the clock, apparently hoping what he was seeing wasn't really happening.

It happened big time.

Later in the article Coach throws Smitty under the bus again:
"Anthony (Smith) didn't bring his A game," Dunton said, "and Jenkins did. Anthony didn't respond."

Edit: I'm thinking that quote was from a post game press conference or something because it was in The Herald's article and Chris's.

Well, I've been to many funerals and wakes that were far LESS painful than that game last night.

I don't feel there is any need to get into a discussion about who is a more dispicable human being : RD or GM (Besides, I think Rich Roth has that title) There are more than enough reasons to criticize RD on a "professional level" than on a "Personal Level". How he treated someone off the floor is not germain to any type of discussion. Arguments can be made about on floor performances that would buttress any case be it Stay (not looking so good) or Go (gaining momentum). A nice truism to file away when discussing personality issues is that there were people who LOVED Hitler, and people who HATED Jesus.
Let's keep it on the professional end.

Which of these is an allusion to RD?

Neither, it was just meant to illustrate a point. But now that you mention it I would think there are those on the board that would go with either :D

Wow am I glad I didn't have to do this game! I couldn't believe the score when I got home from the Richmond game. Richmond is really bad btw and I don't see them winning many more A-10 games this year....Now to the carnage. I of course didn't see the game but I am sure Dennis and Ray did a great job on the air. No Torrell Martin and we still lose by 30? I wouldn't have thought that! Apparently Bradshaw was very motivated to play the Flames for whatever reason. Anyway, I don't have too much more to say than what has been said. We have our work cut out for us. Liberty needs to play well to go down to HPU and win next week.
