If I went just on coaching merits, Id say Skinner is certainly one to look at. Sutton is the son of a legend and did pretty well in his own right running the corral in Stillwater. He would fall under JB's penchant for a "name hire" though. I'll go go back through and rank some others when I get a chance tonight or tomorrow

There you go ! That's the spirit!

Both of them would fall under 'Name Hire'. If we were to make a change I say we dub these 2 or Unofficial Leading Candidates :D

For what its worth CJ, Im less and less inclined to consider bringing Meyer back either...and he has a stay bonus written into his current extension that Im sure he will want to cash out so I don't see him leaving...my friends over at LFN said that Jordan would be a better UM assistant to target

Absolutely 0 chance of anyone on the Michigan staff taking the job or even showing any interest in it.

the boys at LFN are pretty good at weeding these things out (though Lang has been my first person to check with on LU stuff) so I wouldnt post a name if I didnt think they found something out that would indicate there is at least an interest on our part in targeting them and at least a tacit interest on their part

Here's my questions on him. Any Head Coaching experience? There's a big difference at making suggestions and making decisions. Secondly, he's worked for some good coaches but does that make him a good coach? Licklighter took him to Iowa but that didn't work out and now he's at Michigan. How much of his success can be contributed to who the HC's are/were? He might be high on The List but I have reservations about him.

Those are fair questions to consider PH...Im sure those sorts of things will be asked with all of the candidates should the search be initiated come the conclusion of this season or whenever

Not a question you'd have to ask of Skinner or Sutton. You really need a lot of work on you Politically Correct generic statements

Political correctness has never really been something I play to...anyway, Im saying that when that search committee meets, whichever names they consider those sorts of things are going to be asked. Certainly Skinner and Sutton would have a leg up with their DI head coaching, along with John Pelphrey (although Im sure he would be a longshot), but regardless of what names go on that list in that boardroom (or wherever they meet), they are going to ask the same questions about everyone, even if they know the answers for some questions with some of the candidates already

Equinox wrote:Time to make a change and hire Al Skinner!!! He’s holder of the most wins and was the National Coach of the Year at Boston College, a winner as a college player at UMass; a pro with the (Long Island) Nets. As a head coach led his teams to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and NIT Quarterfinals (total of 9 NCAA and 3 NIT appearances). But more importantly he’s man of good character, great knowledge of the game, and graduates his student-athletes. Currently he’s an assistant at Bryant Univ., however I’m sure he’ll be scooped up after this season by a AD seeking a solid all around leader and coach that’s not carrying any baggage. If JB presents to him a competitive salary, good dental plan (what’s with those teeth of his) matched with the commitment the school has shown in regards to the facilities, I guarantee that we would finally see real talent on the campus, and a consistent appearance in the NCAA tournament. GOsh, he's only an assistant at Bryant now? Man that has been one heck of a downward career trajectory.

In actually it’s smart that he decided to ease himself back into the coaching regime at Bryant. He’s working with / for his former assistant at BC at a mid-major school (ala Liberty). His only mistake was believing his record at Boston College would protect him from the schools AD. Gene DeFilippo, the former BC AD, did a hatchet job on Skinner labeling him as “lazy” and hard to work with to his peers. Remember this is the same DeFilippo who fired then BC head football coach now Georgia State University offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski, due to a “difference of the future”, leading to Jags bounce from the Tampa Bay Bucs, to the semi-pro Nighthawks, to the college ranks with GSU.

DeFilippo also did his best to block UConn from the ACC.

My friend is a BC alum and worked under Gene when she was a student there and loves this guy, it’s just a good thing she never got him angry. Remember Skinner technically wasn’t fired, but even with his credentials he is finding it hard to step into a “major” basketball head coaching position, which is why he’s at Bryant….If JB gets the opportunity to meet with him it would be a one of the greatest steals for Liberty.

Haha. I don't think anyone is advocating that. The Jeff Meyer rule was instituted because a certain number of posters continued to bring up the interim coach who replaced him and then was brought back later. Every thread devolved into the merits of said coach. Since he no longer has an influence on this program, discussing him has about as much merit as say discussing any other past coach from back in the day. I chose Jeff Meyer because he was our first D1 coach. I could have chose Dan Manley, Harley Swift, Dale Gibson or Mel Hankinson because non of them impact the team now either . No everytime he is brought up I say Jeff Meyer. It's not advocating, just rule enforcement

I think Layer is here for at least another season, but this thread got me thinking. I've been wanting to go back to Lynchburg and maybe head basketball coach is in my future. My 7th grade rec league team is undefeated and playing for the championship this weekend. Have there been any HMO sightings? I need someone to work on my resume. I'm looking for additional staff members also. You must have coaching experience at a level higher than Upwards. "Coaching Basketball" class at Liberty does not count as coaching experience. Don't PM me if you are interested in being a part of my staff. If you think you are good enough, put it on the line and post it here. If you are an offensive or defensive specialist, please include a synopsis of your base offense/defense with a diagram. If you do not have a diagram available, PAMedic can probably help you out. He's good with graphics.

My defensive philosophy is sort of cutting edge. I like to play a style that keeps my opponent from scoring more points than me. I will say every time I've done that my team has won.
Offensively I'm pretty conservative. I just try to score more points then the team we play. Nothing fancy but pretty effective. I have an amazing record 567-3 when both my offensive and defensive game plans work.

While I don't have on-court experience, I am a student of the game and would be a great asset on the sideline.

Offensively I like the Princeton offense primarily but if the personnel would work with a run and gun, perimeter shooting heavy style, I can work with that as well.

Defensively, I like pressure. 2-1-2 and 2-2-1. Post players will half-guard to the dominant hand and in the half-court I like to run a pack line.
