Pled Guilty to the Marijuana Possession Charge. Heard he got 10 days jail plus year of probation, then had a Drug/Alcohol Screen issue in March. 90 day sentence.

The handling of our coaches and players with drug related issues needs to be firmer than public universities, because students here are held to a higher standard. I am glad to see the University at least make a statement and stick their neck out for Eaker. I just hope it was an informed decision.
Chapman violated his probation and ended up in court again in January. Not sure what else happened after that. Letting him play is one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen a football program make.
You're covering Tech now? That will change.

The original trial date was set for this morning at 9:30. I'm interested in what plays out.

I'll let dickens or somebody who knows the legal workings explain better, but basically by pleading guilty, he doesnt have to go through a trial and in return gets a lesser sentence. It doesnt mean that he would have been guilty if there had been a trial but he still faces some consequence (in this case probation and not being able to drive until after the basketball season)

So once again, no magical evidence or facts come to the rescue to explain it as a giant misunderstanding as we were led to believe would happen. I feel bad for the guy someday who does have an actual innocent explanation, because there's no way any of us will buy it.

It's just odd that this has gone under the radar? Even if its a misunderstanding and caught at a wrong place at a wrong time. But we can pray for him...

I realize what guilty means thanks. More so in relation to this...
“We are fully aware of the situation and have been from the beginning when Jason Eaker immediately brought it to our attention. We understand that everyone has fully cooperated with the investigation. Given what we know, we retain full confidence in Eaker and he has the University’s support to remain in his position. Because of its sensitive nature, we will not comment further until the legal matters are formally concluded.”

I'm sure someone is 'slyly' putting something together.

So we have a convicted drug felon sitting on our bench? Is that worded right? Is it not that bad because they were pain meds? So many questions and again so few answers.

If you are looking for the info google the Lynchburg Circuit Court, a couple clicks later you will find what you are looking for.
I have to say I am disappointed in my former University this evening. What kind of message are we sending allowing him to remain on the sidelines? If you were a parent of one of this programs recruits how would you feel knowing a convicted felon or at least a plea deal guilty felon was on the sideline.
You can slice this thing anyway you want with whatever spin you choose, but the fact is he plead guilty to a felony. You do not accidentally become a felon as some would like to suggest, seeking some silver lining in a sad situation here. In many careers with far less public attention a situation such as this would cost you your job, but not in this case, at LU?
My heart goes out to this guy and I wish for his recovery through this time, but this is not right. I personally knew many students whose education at LU was cut short because they were at a party where someone was smoking a joint, or they were themselves. No convictions there, no court system, no black eye for the "Front Porch of The University" athletic department, but still no grace or mercy shown by the administration who at the time was unwilling to extend much more than a refund for their room and board for the duration of the semester if they were lucky.
This situation was handled in a bush league fashion thus far, this is not the TRBC Softball team this guy is coaching, this is D1 athletics. Get it together down there.

Before the game, there was quite a bit of chatter going on about this situation amonst students and it being an embarrassment.

This is all about winning. They'll do anything to win games. Do you think they would keep him around if this team were 0-7 right now? Winning trumps all.

As fans of the hoops program, we deserve a better response than, "we have a drug felons back in this situation". They are saying that like we have full faith that they are making the right choice here. When a few months back it was proven that they made a very WRONG choice in allowing Asa to play.

Clean it up down there.

No one cares about this --

Outside of this board, no one cares about LU Hoops either, outside of this board...

New camera angle because no one shows up to sit in the cushion seats anymore....

Long ago were the days when LU hosted the Conference tournament and shattered attendance records.
Long ago were the days when LU hoops had VA Tech, VCU, Richmond, FIU, etc come to the Vines and LU actually win one of those...
Long ago were the days LU hoops were at least going to the semi finals of the tournament at Least!
Long ago did conference rivals FEAR coming to the Vines...
long ago were the days when people cared...

Guys, I have the full story and I am very pleased with how the school handled this situation with Coach Eaker. I am not comfortable with sharing all of the details because it wouldn't be appropriate. But I know for a fact that the reason he chose to plead guilty is because he wanted to take responsibility for his momentary lack of judgement. He is genuinely contrite and the school has been completely in the loop all along.

This is a prescription situation and frankly it is about as benign a situation as you could possibly conjure up given hours. He did something wrong for which he should be punished. But there is absolutely nothing nefarious about the crime.

Well all we can do is move on and pray that the best has been done in the situation and pray for restoration. We have to remember this guy has a family and being a christian then we need to lift him up rather than put him down.
